If you go to the expense of taking Porsche to court what is your loss in your circumstances - the court wouldn’t take into account some highly theoretical once in a lifetime possible event.
So if Porsche replaces someone's PCCB brakes with steel brakes, the owner is owed nothing unless they can prove they track the car regularly and long enough for steel brakes to fail while PCCB's would not? :confused:

Here's my imagination:
Most people who own a Taycan have a proper house with a garage and charge them there during the 14-10 hours that the car is in the garage.
Most people work eight hours a day at the office/factory/whatever.

Conclusion:
Most people are perfectly fine with an 11 kW charger if they were offered one, that's my point.
Most people don't need a 22 kW OBC anyway.

I thought the replies were in similar same spirit as arguments I was replying to, along the lines of "It's useless to me, so nobody needs it, so it's not worth anything".

You are correct, most people don't need it, and therefore it has little value to them. However, value of something is not determined by what it's worth to most people, but rather to each individual.

Conclusion:

Then most people will be happy with no compensation (as it is useless option to them, therefore of no value). Those who do see value (presumably those who chose to pay for it), should get greater compensation if they are forced to work around losing half of the charging performance of the car, like having to use alternative transportation or lose time due waiting for charging to complete.

What I fail to understand is why the car becomes immediately underivable just because the AC charger failed. Just like 2-3 cells fail and the car immediately turns into a brick. This extreme conservatism in their software algorithm causes the real damage from customer experience perspective. There is nothing like the drama of your 150K car leaving home on a flatbed and leaving you with the question of where else this could have happened and what headaches it could have caused.
It's because the OBC which fails is not only responsible for AC charging, but also for DC charging.
When the transistor burns out in spectacular fashion, there's usually also a short in the module itself.
At this point it's a fire hazard to let the car drive. That's why it bricks the car.
There are also OBC failures where only the AC circuit fails, but it doesn't blow up, in which case the car can still be driven - no short in the module.

Stop making things up and put words in people's mouth.

If you've paid for a option that doesn't work you should get reimbursed, either in compensation or a different solution (which is highly dealer-dependent).

My point: if you've payed for an option that doesn't work you should get reimbursed, either in money or a different solution.
Agreed. Do you agree that the money reimbursement should be enough to make the car work exactly as it did before? Maybe set a maximum payout at MSRP where the manufacturer buys the car back as it is no longer fit for the purpose it was bought for, if the manufacturer is not willing to pay for an equivalent solution. What that solution is would likely be different for each user. In my case, replacing my 3 garage 19.2kW, load balancing EVSEs with DC chargers would do ok, as the only 80A out of the house charger I ever used has a Tesla supercharger nearby and I can finally charge there now. I would even offer Porsche a different deal, swap my wife's 2024 Q8 etron with a Cayenne EV Turbo, and then I can just alternate cars on the few days a year I need fast charging at home (one is charging while I drive the other, but all Porsche Turbo driving). Either of these solutions would require compensation well above $1,600 (the cost of the OBC upgrade at production time).

Regarding replacing a 22kW charger with an 11kW version, I agree that this is unsatisfactory and perhaps some modest compensation would be appropriate. However do you actually need 22kW? The number of places with actually useful 22kW chargers in the UK is very small -- a few people have them at work, and a few have 3-phase power at home, but it's much less common than in, say, Germany. The J.2 Taycan does not have 22kW at all by the way.
I am surprised that there would not be many useful 22 kWchargers in the UK. Looking at ChargeFinder around Poole, Southampton that I visited some years ago, there a lot.

At the time we were there it was difficult to find any DC charger at all and meant driving around a bit to geta charge. Chargefinder now shows a lot of units there? Same for London and Cambridge. I certainly had wished for a 22 kW charger in the car at that stage, but could only use 11 kW.

Your map includes a lot of 50 kW DC chargers, and they have a role although even those are decreasing in utility given the incredibly fast charging speed of Taycans and the growing number of 150kW+ chargers.

Yes, there are a few particular cases, especially for those who have no home charging and want to turn around a full charge at work or while shopping for the day, not really all that many.

In fact with a J1.2 (which can peak well over 300kW) and a decent availability of IONITY chargers, as you now see in France/Germany/Spain, on road trips I’ve stopped even bothering with hotels and shopping centres and overnight plugs — just hit a 300kW charger for 15 mins mid journey.

This thread is mixing up US and UK, which are very different systems. 22kW is potentially more useful for some US users and maybe in other parts of Europe too. But if someone in the UK were buying a J1.2 Taycan and asked me “are you worried it doesn’t have a 22 kW charger“? I would say absolutely no; you won’t need it.

Sounds like an acceptable compensation from Porsche for J1.1 owners in EU with failed 22kW charger could be a free replacement with an equivalent J1.2. Something tells me US owners might be amenable to such a solution too.

The filters are set to show Mennekes plugs, not CCS2? So it should only show AC chargers.
I think we even have AC chargers rated at up to 43 kW here,.

Could of course be a mistake in the map,

US and EU/UK are the same, only the voltage is different (240V vs 120V), that's why the amps are almost twice as high, it's a different architecture (more expensive) but the kW is the same.

In the Netherlands, the country with the highest number of public chargers per km2 in the world, the most common public AC chargers are 11 kW.
And for a good reason: a 16A architecture is way cheaper than a 32A architecture.

Only factories or large office buildings have a 32A architecture cuz they use it themselves, it's already there.

Like I said before: 19,2 kW OBC is overrated.

From hazy memory, there was some feature the 22 supported that the 11 does not. I am struggling to recall. I somehow associate it with Tesla chargers. 2x 400V?
