Taycan arriving Fall. My local utility will give me a clipper creek 32a unit for free and pay half the installation costs. Seems like a good deal-but will the maximum charge rate (7.kw) be a problem-the alternative is use what comes with the car or buy something like a tesla j1772 unit.

Seems like a good deal to me but depends on your use case. Unless you are driving the car hard on a near constant basis and find yourself in a depleted state every day and need frequent charges at home that can’t be met with the lower rate overnight charge, you will get decent hardware with a lower cost install paid by your utility. Plus, if you find your use case changes in the future that demands a higher amperage unit, you could replace it. Just have the wiring gauge installed to support a 60A circuit to provide some future proofing. You may get some pushback from the utility for the higher installation costs, but I would pay the delta as the wiring run will be a significant cost component of the install.

it's fine - and you can have the Porsche included unit as a backup - have the electrician installed wire gauge rated for at least 60 amps - and a Hubble NEMA 6-50/14-50 outlet and you'll be golden - my preference these days is for the 6-50 plug since that saves a bit on wire cost and and avoid the unused 4th wire (neutral) - NEMA 14-50 to 6-50 adapters are cheap/effective/safe/affordable - so at the end of the day it honestly doesn't matter which plug you get and the 6-50 is "cleaner" in my opinion and more EV focused.

Clippercreek/Enphase is a rock solid product with a stellar reputation for quality/reliability - if you can get over the slightly slower charge rate this is a GREAT deal.

for comparison Tesla Wall Charger J-1772 is $550 + tax + shipping - and can do anywhere from 12 to 48 amps (15 - 60 amp breaker)
https://shop.tesla.com/product/j1772-wall-connector

charge point charger adjustable from 16-50 amps is $699
https://www.amazon.com/ChargePoint-Home-Electric-Vehicle-Charger/dp/B07WXZDHGV/ref=sr_1_5?crid=39KR0RAKKZUR9&keywords=charge+point+EVSE&qid=1686162210&sprefix=charge+point+evse,aps,144&sr=8-5

98% of the time charging speed doesn't matter overnight as long as the car is ready in the morning.

32 amp EVSE will require a 40 amp breaker - should be a cheap/easy install.

see this posting for how long it will take to charge at 32 amps (7.68 kW)
