Closing the doors

Just watched a tech at my local dealer close the door on my car by pushing on the window. This is something I personally try to never do on a frameless window car, especially my beloved Taycan. I ask my regular passengers to do the same. Do you guys think this is bad for the windows or doors?

Can't see there's an issue really. Seems a lazy approach for sure but doubt it will lead to any damage.

Of greater concern is the trapped debris between the door window and the rubber seal at the bottom of the glass - can lead to scratching if not careful.

On frameless windows, I push on the window right above the body panel. Though, I can't imagine it will break very easily unless a person hulks it.

I never do that on frameless doors. Nothing good can come by doing it + fingerprints. That's what handles are for.

I should mention this was on the top corner of the window furthest from any support.

I never do that on frameless doors. Nothing good can come by doing it + fingerprints. That's what handles are for.

I remember when v young my Father telling me not to slam doors and use handles "because thats what they are for". He was talking about doors around the house... but applied to cars too.

It's a pity they don't have soft close doors. I have found you have to push them a bit harder than I expected.

I always open and close the doors using the door handles. Mostly for finger/palmprint management. Have instructed the family to do the same

Not accusing you of taking that too far, but . . .
A uniquely appealing aspect of Porsche as a high performance car manufacturer is that they do not intend for their products to be pampered, low mileage garage queens. I love how they have 911s converted to Baja and endurance cars, and how they used extremely rare museum display cars in the chase scenes in the 2020 Super Bowl advertisement. I keep my Taycan clean, but not to the point that it makes my friends self-conscious. Pretty much every day I have friends or coworkers drive my Taycan and do launch controls and hard cornering, and they love it, the way Porsche intends.

It's definitely bad for the windows, but on the other hand, frameless windows have been around in cars for a decade or longer. I've got to believe it's a solved problem by now, at least for the traditional manufacturers like Porsche.

Please report back! My previous car had soft close doors and I have gotten so used to not slamming the doors shut, I have yet to successfulyl close the Taycan door on the first try lol.
