Dash cam suggestions (UK)

Hi - I retrofitted the front Porsche DashCam - expensive but it is okay.
Be careful about hardwiring a 3rd party Dashcam as it is likely to invalidate your warranty and they may get funny as regards applying recall updates as well. You can hardwire it into the rear 12v socket and that is fine but into any of the fuse boxes is simply a no go according to my local OPC.

I liked the look of the Fitcamx and ordered just the front camera which looks like it integrates well.

Unfortunately my Taycan developed a fault between my ordering it and it being delivered so I haven’t tried to fit it yet.

Thanks for the suggestion but I think hardwiring it will void the warranty so it’s a no-go for me. Sorry to hear your Taycan developed a fault on delivery, although you now have time to reconsider hardwiring the Fitcamx if it void your warranty…

If you are going down the Blackvue route then your main choices seem to be:
- do you want internet connectivity so you can view remotely? (I think this is more for fleet use— I don’t see the need for it)
- do you want 4K front camera (970x) or 1080p?
- do you want rear camera? - recommended
- do you want to power from battery and if so for how long? - I went for the smaller size, which will keep the car covered for the night after I park it. At home we have cctv. They installed it very neatLt in the crypt undee the boot where the charging cable goes.

there is a simgle connection to the fuse board which can be removed easily by Porsche service.

Sorry to hear your Taycan developed a fault on delivery

The fault was after 6 months use and the first service appointment I could get is tomorrow 4 weeks after the car stopped working properly.

I have never had or needed a dashcam for the last 56 years driving but thought the Fitcamx didn’t look as dire as usual so thought I’d get one.

I don’t see how warranty would justifiably be void on something not connected with the rain sensor though I was threatened using GTS spec winter wheels on a 4S would invalidate the warranty so they obviously like to try it on.

Damn that’s terrible mate sorry to hear that. Yeah dash cam is just a peace of mind really, I never had it until the model Y but it’s proven itself useful a few times in one year of ownership.

I got a Fitcamx and just installed it. My fingers now hurt significantly. Taking the circular front trim off was really really difficult. To do it you need to really pull both sides of the trim wide apart, much harder than you think you should. Then when it gets free, pull downwards. Don't pull down before getting the sides really far apart.

The dashcam cables can be slotted above the existing cabling, there is a small gap just big enough for the plug from the dashcam and the wire and you should definitely use this space.

Another tip is that in a 2022 MY Taycan, Porsche have attached a rubber cable and a bit of string to the trim items, so be careful pulling the rear trim pieces off as you need to carefully free these as they are attached. The rubber cable goes through the circular slot in the larger rear housing and the string can be teased over the smaller rear housing as there is a clip with the left hand side open, I'm guessing for this purpose. My guess is they are trying to trip up those who install dashcams themselves, but IMO that's terrible customer service.

I have a Mercylion A40-1CH dashcam on my 11 Paramera. stupidly easy to fit - its connected to the battery which sits under the passenger side seat. This is hardwired to the closes fuse box, with Cam power routed up the left A pillar. Connection to the rear com is round the driver side roof line.

I've just picked up a Blackvue refurbished 750x front and rear for £275 off ebay (they have their own store) and am getting a battery pack. Wish me luck with the install. I'll probably go the standard route of installing in the boot and using the 12v cigarette socket there rather than tap in to the electrics.

I installed iRoad X11 for both front and rear. It’s 4K and gets it’s power from the OBD Port underneath the steering wheel. The place that installed it said this will avoid having to go through the fuse box which is a no no with the Taycan. It has no cloud connectivity but I never needed it with the Blackvue in my XC90. I bought a 256GB microSD to allow for 10 or more days of recording.

I installed an OEM-Looking Dashcam in my Taycan, and it's been fantastic. Mercylion have models with both front and rear cameras, providing good video quality and reliable performance. I just love them.

Have been driving a loan Panamera for the last week with Porsche fitted front and rear cams. I wouldn't install those!

Ugly and an irritating voice noting whether recording had started or stopped. Also took up more screen space than they should.

Why don't Porsche just use the myriad other cameras in the car? Add recording from those.
