Hello everyone,

I just recently got a new to me Taycan4 CT. I was wondering if there are any recommendations for the FitCamX installation.

Thanks!

Check the FitcamX website. The installation video is decent. Also check YouTube. Pretty sure there is at least one thread on this site. Awkward the first time but not really very hard. If you are asking about the FitcamX unit, it's acceptable+. Invisible when installed with decent resolution.

FitCamX is very buggy. The worst of it is that it just stops recording at some point until you manually reset the unit. So, if you are like me, and never check your dash cam unless something happens then most likely you are screwed. I even worked with FitCam to troubleshoot and then they sent me a 2nd unit which eventually did the same thing. It can freeze up in 3 days or 3 months. No rhyme or reason. Blackvue is much better.

Hi Kev,

There is a shop in SE PDX called Musicar NW that gets pretty high marks on reviews. I talked to them about dash cam install for my Turbo S and will probably use them when I get my radar detector and dash cam installed. They seem to do a lot of high end cars for stereo.

And congrats on the Taycan CT. What color is it? I’ll keep an eye out for it around town.

Rob

For what it's worth, I've had mine installed for almost 3 years and it works just fine. I check it occasionally to make sure it's still recording properly just like you should with any Dashcam. Sometimes when dashcams are flakey it is related to the type of SD card being used but it's definitely possible you got 2 crappy, buggy units in a row.

^ Ditto. Mine has worked normally for over 2 years.

Two items for the FITCAMX:
1. Gather the hardware and sw version info from your FITCAMX and write support to get the current firmware. Early versions were buggy and would stop recording.
2. Get a quality high-endurance SD card. Don’t go cheap here.

I’m about to do my second install of a FITCAMX. It’s not that hard - but it does take some time to do.

good luck!

I installed the Fitcam about 7 months ago and and have had no issues. Super clean with no wires or anything stuck on the windshield. I used the video from Fitcam while I was doing the installation and would pause or rewind as needed. It was a little tedious working with small spaces and connections but it took me about 45 minutes. It was hard to twist off the rear view mirror but on other threads some said they did the install without having to take it off.

I put a Garmin mini in the back window which plugs into the 12 volt socket in the trunk. It was super easy and the wire tucks easily along the window frame.

Thanks! My family got the FitCamX on a Rav4 Prime and a Niro EV. The install for those was much more straight forward. The Taycan seems more complicated. We were retrieve footage on the Rav4 once, and never tried it in the Niro. I'll look into it. Thanks!

Hello Rob!

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll look into it!

Yes, it is a boring Volcano Gray. Since it's a well priced CPO, beggars can't be choosers. I'm on the west side of town!

Nothing wrong with volcano!

Also a happy fitcam owner. Fitted one in Range Rover and Taycan. Both took about 45 minutes. Actually found a much better install video for RR on YouTube which was real time rather than fitcam’s heavily edited version. Alas didn’t find one for Taycan.

The installation videos are ok, but don’t be surprised if there are a few more of the fiddly stages that are glossed over. Also helps if you don’t have sausage fingers.

I put in a bigger branded SD card, but careful not to go too big or it won’t work.

Love the fact it’s pretty much invisible - so some toss-pot doesn’t break into the car to steal it!

it’s a bit of a pain trying to view footage on your phone (WiFi) that’s set up with your car as the Taycans WiFi always tries to boot it off and take over. My fix was to put the fitcam app on my iPad, but rarely use it.

Top tip - put a thick towel or similar over the dash under the rear view mirror. It’s surprisingly heavy and you want some protection if you drop it.

I just installed the Fitcamx which was delivered this morning. Bringing down the Porsche plastic cap and the two covers wasn't that hard. The orange safety were easily unplugged as well. However, it took a while to mount the cam correctly. The pastic spikes hardly clip into the mirror's metal socket. Finally the job was done after 1h end-2-end.
You do not have to remove the rear vew mirror, although mounting the cam might be easier if you try snapping it onto the loose mirror. Both ways finally work.

Thanks everyone! I ended up with Musicar NW. They labor rates were reasonable I had a great convo with them about potential future sound upgrades if there are more interest for the Taycan platform.

Sound!!!! Nearly as bad as having the speed limit imbedded on the footage. 😂
