I need Some advice. I picked up my 2022 Tacyan GTS ST a couple of weeks ago. When the car arrived at the dealership in early April I advised the SA that I was having an XPEL wrap done locally by a certified installer. The SA convinced me to do the wrap there as they do high end cars for other dealerships and do good work. Out of convenience I had them do the work, charging me $2,800. After picking up the vehicle a week later I drove it home and noticed some imperfections. I did not feel the workmanship was up to par nor what I was advised it would be. I took The car to two local certified installers for their opinions. Both felt it was a subpar job. I also had the car at my local Porsche dealership (not where I purchased the car) and after looking at the work the GM there felt the same way. I received an estimate from one of the local installers to redo certain sections of the wrap to correct them. The estimate is $1,345. I asked the dealership where I purchased the car to refund this amount to me so that I can move forward with the corrective work. They are refusing and insisting that I bring the car back to them. I have no confidence in their ability to do the job correctly. As I paid $165,000 for the car I believe I should be completely satisfied with the purchase. I love the car but am frustrated by this experience. Any thoughts?

No idea what the legislation is in the US, but it doesn’t seem unreasonable for the original supplier to have the opportunity to rectify their own errors.
However, if the job still remains sub-par then you should push for a refund to offset the cost of getting it re-done elsewhere.

the only thought is that you could have used the same installer and paid less than allowing the dealership to get a piece of the price that you paid.

If you are confident that the $1345 would get the job done properly, I would pay it and get the work completed. This would solve the biggest problem…you being happy with your car. I would then take the paid receipt back to the dealer, preferably during a time where they are sure to have customers on their showroom floor and demand reimbursement. Worst case scenario, is that you threw away $1300 bucks additional for a car that makes you happy and you gave the dealership some candid feedback. Best case is that they cut you a check to avoid turning off other customers.

Unfortunately, the dealer does have a right to try to correct it before giving a refund…

Thanks for the feedback. I guess I may need to give the dealership one more shot in this. Unfortunately that are an hour away and I would need a loaner to leave the car. Not sure they would accommodate this but I will check. Thanks again.

Inconvenient and annoying, but good call. US law is fairly clear on allowing the original supplier to rectify a claim. In fact the T&Cs on my Taycan purchase included a specific clause on this point.

Politeness will go a long way :)

Calmly set out what you think is wrong with it, arrange to meet them in person, get them to agree and then have another go.

And do not take the car away without looking over it like a hawk. You don't have the excitement of first pick up now, so need to focus everything on making sure the job's good enough, and if not tell them there and then.
