Good morning. I have a question for everyone.
I have a new 2025 Taycan base with the performance battery. Very highly optioned at 137k. From the day after I bought it I’ve been having all sorts of electrical problems. The very next day the charging doors refused to open. Turns out the dealer knew of the problem Before I took delivery. The parts needed were on back order from Germany. Long story short, my car was in the shop for 30 days. After getting it back, I’ve had a lot of electrical problems. As we speak it’s back in the shop and will be for at least a week. Longer if they have to order parts.
My question is this. Have any of you experienced your screens going blank while driving? It’s happened three times in the last month to me. One day I got to message. One that I had been removed from the car. The other one said I no longer had access to remote functions.
I‘m very frustrated. It’s truly a love hate relationship. Kinda like being married LOL. I love the performance but hate the reliability. I’m getting close to 400 miles (390) on a full charge. I’m a smooth driver LOL.
I‘ve begun talks with Porsche Cars North America about a buy back. But I’m so torn because I love the car so much.
any ideas about what might be causing the problem?

Nice car Tori. I had had times where my screens go blank for a couple of seconds when the maps have updated. If I have the extended map or map screen open on both screens they both go white, but then they come back.

I used to have the centre screen stay on the Porsche logo, but this hasn't happened for about a year.

I have not had any other issues with the screens.

Same as the other folks - never had the screen go blank, but I did get stuck at “Porsche” once, right after a service update at the dealer.

Turned back around and let them fix that, and it has been fine since.

Tori personally I’d give them a chance to fix that before going to the nuclear option, especially since you’re enjoying the car a lot and getting honestly quite outstanding range.

I had it happen to me about 5 or 6 times on my MY21. I just rebooted and that cleared the issue. Has not happened on my MY24 which I have had for 10 months.

Mark,
thanks for the feedback. I’ve had the car for less than three months. 1700 miles. It’s been in the shop over half that time. In fact it’s in the shop now. My screens go completely black After 1 to 2 minutes they will slowly reboot and come back on.

They have tried twice before. I wasn’t using nav. I’m an old gear head. Also 30 days in the shop because the charging doors wouldn’t open. That was after 16 HOURS of ownership and 50 miles. The dealer finally admitted they knew of the problem before I bought it and didn’t inform me. They just cleared codes. It worked for them one time and they delivered it to me. After it came out of the shop I received these two messages.
I used to be a service writer. I know two things. Electrical problems are difficult to diagnose if it’s something intermittent. Electrical problems one begin, they will most likely never go away. One different thing after another. Should I just hope nothing happens every time I get in the car. This car was a LOT of money.

Well, you make a strong case.

I’m really sorry that you’ve had such a bad experience.

I’m sorry too. I really like the car otherwise.
Thank you

I had my screens go blank, the first time was on my long trip home from the dealer after picking it up. It happened once or twice after that. Had the Porsche logo stuck on screen at startup a few times over the past 2 years.

For my MY23 it happened only couple of times, not recently. Perhaps it takes Porsche 4 years to iron out software bugs. MY29 J1.2 should be nice and stable. ;)

Mine seems to be happening once a week. It’s in the shop more than in my garage. Not exaggerating either. I’ve had it for 12 weeks. As of tomorrow it’s been in the shop for six of those weeks. That includes the entire first month after buying it and this last week. Plus other single day visits. Not sure how long they will have it this time.

If they cannot reproduce the problem, it's going to be an uphill battle. On my way home from the dealer, I experienced inability to lock the car (the car would automatically unlock by itself). It was a middle of a snowstorm, after a few tries I just left the car unlocked, checked into the hotel, then came back out and managed to lock it (I think via the app). Hard to reproduce problem, but my dealer at home spent a few hours until the finally got this to happen. so they replaced all door handles. Unfortunately it happened again after that. Dealer couldn't reproduce it this time howerver. It also (more often then auto unlock) sometimes just doesn't respond to touching the locking divot on the driver's side door (but the rear works, so I just use that instead when it happens). So they replaced a door handle again (this time just one). It still happens here and there (usually when cold out), but not reliably repeatable, and only that first time I couldn't relock it easily. This could be a software issue, though I suspect it's a signal integrity issue (bad wiring or an ECU somewhere). Long story short, I just learned to live with it. Service offered to keep on swapping door handles, but I doubt that would fix it, so I declined. Similar story with a rattle behind the dash. Dealer fixed it, but it reappeared after couple of weeks IIRC. I just shoved some dense foam behind there and that solved my problem. Bottom line is this - hard to reproduce problems just result in long service visits, often without a result - not the fault of service, but simply because if it's hard to reproduce, they really never know if they fixed it or if it's just not reproducing at the moment. The best way to fix issues like this is to find a reliable repro (a way to reproduce the problem on demand).

So if I was you, and this happened once a week, and all it does is reboot the PCM, and the car has been in service attempting to fix it for over 6 weeks (you said more than half of your 12 week ownership), I'd just take the car and live with it for now. So it reboots once a week. Car is brand new, so you got 4 years of warranty. If you get lucky, it will start happening all the time or the PCM will just die - that's a much quicker and easier fix. Or maybe you will learn how to reproduce it on demand (e.g. you realize it always happens when you do certain actions in order) - also easier fix, since reproducible. Or, it may turn out to be a software issue which will get fixed with a firmware update down the road a little bit.

So take your car back and enjoy it. It's a great car. Not perfect, it has glitches here and there, but at least for me, the driving/ownenrship experience is a net positive. Trying to get it perfect will keep it in the shop more than in your possession. Again, remember, unless it's preventing you from using or enjoying the car, or it's a safety issue, you got 4 years of warranty to fix things that break, or ones that irk you the most. That's my $0.03, in the end of course only you can decide what is the best course of action.

The first 4 weeks of ownership, it was in the shop because the doors to the charging port would not open. The parts were on back order from Germany. Took a month to get the parts.
The screens going blank is not the only issues. One day I got a message that the car had deleted me from my Porsche account. The next day I got another message saying my remote access was no longer available. I’ve had issues with the door locking mechanism as well.
A lot of faults on Avery expensive car.

Mine was in the shop for 6 months over the first 3 years for 3 battery module failure. I still want to keep it. If it works, it's just very special!

The way I see it:

If the problems are so bad, that you cannot even use it, dump it, not worth waste your life energy over it! There are other really nice and good EVs, particularly in this price range!

If you can use it and mostly enjoy it, keep it, drive it, and from time to time get something fixed, if you can spare (time not money) it.

As for the money, I spend 230k USD in 2020 for a 4S+. Simply accept, that you got a new Porsche model, not a Toyota Corolla.

I had the problem with my PCM screen, either blank or the word PORSCHE displayed. I took it in several times and finally a new PCM was installed. Problem solved.
