See, this is why I wasn’t able to break down and buy any of the dealer demonstrators last autumn, even the rare loaded ones in colors other than white. They all had that glass roof, and already Derek had been posting about glass breakage. I don’t even find the idea of a glass roof attractive, and then to find out they break from rocks or from pressure / improper installation, and then cost a lot to replace sealed it for me.

No glass roof.

And yes the roads are getting worse. In my town they are still ok, but major potholes appear just as soon as you get on the US 101 onramp, let alone onto the freeway itself. No 21” wheels for me.

These crazy parts costs make me realize another oddity. When its time Instead of trading the car to a dealer i will sell the parts in ebay. My perfect condition mission E’s should get me $6-7K. PSCBs with discs $3-4K? $3K for the glass roof another 1K for windshield? $500 for my porsche emblem engraved headrests. $2K for the new working heater? How about my 5K mile PB+ battery 30K? Wait i am already almost at what the dealer offers me for the car and i still have many valuable parts to sell. ?
how crazy times. Isn’t it interesting that a car depreciates this fast but somehow the parts themselves are totally unimpacted by that depreciation.

I actually heard back today, they partially approved the supplement from the dealer but not fully. At this point I've offered to make up the difference to get the car fixed and move on.

They wore you out. Some insurance adjuster is getting a bonus.

Their estimate and the shop's estimate were very far apart.

Doesn't the insurance estimate have to be backed up by actual data, i.e. they need to find a shop which will do the job? Otherwise all estimates could be whatever your deductible is.

You really should hold your insurance company accountable, from what I have read. They insure that car, not a certain amount that they feel like insuring. Tell them to fix the roof as agreed or you will litigate.

Haha, what kind of referral do you offer? Austin is not on the list. I’m trying to get away from the homeless problem. My friends who are in Austin describe it as bad as CA. I’m thinking more like Eagle, ID, Utah, Scottsdale, AZ, Nashville, etc.

well, maybe it is just one rotten/unlucky apple in the proverbial barrel (@DerekS is), and he has taken the time to write about. Statistically insignificant if you ask my opinion (math major here with concentration in statistics)
