Insurance pushed back on the price.
Shop not part of insurance negotiated rate network?

PS> Some insurances seem to be more aggressive than others. I mentioned a Corolla I was just fixing, the party at fault is insured with Progressive, who came out and estimated it at ~$1250. They couldn't however recommend any shops to fix it at that price, so went through my insurer instead, State Farm, which approved and covered $3,600 repair at one of their approved shops. They will also go after the party at fault for the deductible (which I had to pay, but should get back upon successful subrogation).

A somewhat related question, does anyone know how thick the panoramic roof glass is?

And no impact on efficiency.
What do you mean?

Even if the drag coefficient of the box is similar to the car the increase in frontal area will produce the proportional increase in aero drag so the efficiency must be worse.
Maybe not much at B road speeds but unavoidably worse.

:) I was just sarcastically joking by proposing an extreme solution (the roof box) to the incredible fragility of the pano roof. Solution which, yes, will also impact consumption.

So, I'm joining the saga.

Pano roof cracked, started with a chip, took a while with GEICO to get it sorted, since SafeLite does not do roofs. a week passed, and it cracked all the way across the glass panel. Insurance says I can only go through Sunroof Express, and they max out at $150 labor. I laughed at them over phone. I said, whatever. I'll just wait till you call me back and send me to the dealer. couple of days later. Sunroof Express called and said I have to bring into dealer to get quote. Got quote. $11k. Quote send back to Sunroof Express, they're waiting for GEICO to approve.

So I should be expecting, windshield and back window replacements as well? lol. my comprehensive deductible is $250, let's hope it comes through. and that's all I have to pay.

Oh no! Good luck, I hope it goes smoother for you than it did for me. They told me the windshield would definitely need replacement aside the roof, the rear window was an extra bonus.

I’ve found a few pieces of damage that I didn’t notice on pickup, that you should warn the shop about:

- Clear coat scratches around the roof area - I did see this at pickup but not super concerned, my detailer can buff those out and reapply ceramic, I’m pretty sure.
- Dented aluminum door sill - pretty sure someone stood on it while laying the roof in.
- Scratches to plastic trim - not sure if someone dropped a tool or what, but I’ve got new scratches on one piece of trim near the rear driver’s side sill.

I bring these issues up not to alarm you but because I feel they were avoidable.
The paint could have been taped up before sawing through the roof, and nobody should be standing on the door sills. Tell your dealer, especially if this is their first Taycan roof.

Wishing you an uneventful and rapid repair!

Wow I sure lucked out not going with the pano roof because of the Texas heat and not even foreseeing the potential cracks. Whoever thought a rock could cause a chip on a virtually horizontal surface as the roof. Hope GEICO comes through for you!

I have full body PPF installed. Should I be worried about having to redo PPF on the edge panels that touches the roof?

No, if you have PPF on that area I would not worry. Even if it gets some light scratching, hot water usually fixes those on PPF.

@DerekS Glad your roof ordeal is over.
You post some of the most interesting threads on the forum, even if some topics are your Taycan problems.
This one was eye opening for me: $16,000 glass roof repair cost and weeks for repair. OUCH!
Even if you did not have to pay most of it.
Fair winds and following seas (or TX equivalent).
