Does anyone actually use launch control?

I'm planning on using it on the way home from work today. All this talk has got me in the mood.
Might even eat some ice cream later too
I'm used to quick accelerating motorcycles, but honestly, it's really not that difficult to use/handle.

I don’t imagine it will be difficult to handle at all compared to the sort of sports cars I am used to where the nearest thing to stability control is a limited slip diff and my right foot.

The difficulty is bothering to just stop somewhere on a road, simply to start again quickly, without inconveniencing others.

It isn’t like the US in this bit of the UK. We don’t have loads of traffic lights where one has to stop anyway.

I use it only when I’m pulling out of my driveway early in the morning so that I can maximize the element of “surprise “ for my fellow drivers

On the RWD (with the PB+), launch is really not that noticeable. However, once you are going 30+ the car is quick to 90 or more and probably consistent with a 4S.

Launch is much more impressive with the AWD and the Turbo, though probably not that useful unless you do a lot of red light racing.

Used it just to test it out, but honestly, on a red light straight line run, most ICE cars cannot keep up (Tesla's are a different story)

I tested it when I got the car a couple of times.

Used it once since, at some traffic lights, where it was 2 into 1 lanes and the person next to me was not someone to be behind.
I do recall it did lurch a bit as I don't think I floored the brake pedal enough initially?
As it happened.... he just sat at the lights anyway and made me look like a right angry knob.

I was not overly impressed in my RWD.
Like everyone else, I wish it was available in normal use.

Finally found a remote space suitable to try it. Once. I was underwhelmed.

If I accelerate faster than my wife's eGolf, my wife gives me the death glare. She does not like the feeling. I am more playful with anyone else in the car, but never use Launch Control.

My wife likes the Taycan soooo much more than the Tesla Model X because the Taycan is so much smoother. You can drive it nearly as fast but it doesn’t feel violent.

I once got so deep into the doghouse with my wife in the Tesla Model X in ludicrous mode when I made the fatal error of blipping the throttle mid-rant from her about me driving too fast. She was looking at me and really digging in for a pound of flesh. Her head was about two or three inches from the Headrest, and when I robustly “blipped” the throttle at about 10 mph, her head slammed back sideways into the headrest. I didn’t mean for that to happen (Childish impulse on my part) but oh man did I regret it, and I was made to regret it even more.

I have a CT4. I used this once and it seemed pretty pointless. But I’d like the extra power it makes available in normal driving eg when overtaking. So why is the extra power only available in launch control?

Good question, but I thought if You were in Sport / Sport + mode you could call on the extra power in overtaking situations, but that could be wishful thinking on my part.
Completely unessential feature, IMHO.

So it seems hardly anyone uses it much, but most would like the extra hp for use in real world driving as an 'overboost' for overtaking etc.

Interestingly, the Audi e-Tron GT variants apparently deliver overboost in 2.5s bursts on full throttle in Dynamic mode, though its power outputs with & without overboost are lower than the corresponding Taycan equivalents.

The REALLY annoying part is the 992 DOES have it on demand, by pressing a button in the middle of the mode selector knob. It puts you in the sportiest setting w boost for 20 seconds.

It'd be amazing if the Taycan had that, too. Unclear why it doesn't.

Well its just a regular sport plus mode for short period. Taycan ONLY gives the extra power on launch control for 2sec or so. Annoying.

Like almost everyone else I’d like it on demand via sport chrono. I still use it all the time but really cannot tell the difference until the 40 to 60 mph split. That‘s not a surprise though since why would Porsche use up all the goodies by adding additional torque early if their aim was to boost max power. That takes revs to generate and the constant power part of the curve starts around 5k revs
