***Update*** I added RAS and gave consideration to all the other stuff discussed in the thread below. This is the final build!

http://www.porschecode.com/PPFYPHD8

Hi all! It's been a long time coming (and lurking, and researching...) and I'm finally ready to make this post. I got my allocation slot, and before I go to the dealer to to go over it with my SA, I want to run it by you guys because I'm sure I'll have to change at least one thing by the time I freeze. A little bit about me:

Mom in Michigan, finally want my "dream car" so I'm just going for it before age 50 rolls around. I don't do a ton of driving, just zipping around town here and there. Big trips would be in the Honda Pilot. Mostly open flat roads here in the suburbs, highways, some downtown congestion. Snow in the winter, hot humid summers, etc. I don't do any fancy or sporty driving, I'm all about safety, visibility, and technology. I like a comfortable car that is practical and fun! Here's my link with some comments to follow:

Obviously, I'm all about that color and that ain't gonna change :).
Aesthetics that I think are important:
Exterior color mirrors
Window trim in high gloss black, but the silver looks good too.
Blackberry leather & matching seatbelts.
Paldao wood trim. MUST have wood in my cars, when ever available.
Wheels: They're a tough pick, I messed around a ton, and might mess around more, but I've settled on 21" Taycan Exclusive Design with high gloss black.
Sport sound: For safety?
LED Matrix HL: Husband has them on his Kia Stinger and said I should get them, so that was his one addition.
Night Vision Assist because my night vision is poor, I avoid driving at night whenever possible, but if I have to I'll need any help I can get!
Innodrive w/ LCA and ACC: Love that on my Honda.
Big battery - know that's important.

1 Totally Frivolous option: Porsche crest on center armrest.

Still pretty confused about what kind of charging stuff I need for mostly overnight garage charging, so let me know if there's something to add or subtract.
I don't think the performance upgrades like the rear axle steering is necessary for both my driving environment and typical use.

Thanks everyone!! Can't believe this is actually happening!! :)

Only comment is, based on your use case, are you sure you want a Taycan? Have you driven one and gotten in and out of one yet?

Uh oh... I will have tomorrow though :). Too sporty? Low visibility?

This description sounds more like Tesla than Porsche. I love my Taycan because I love sporty driving and I put up with the tech shortcomings. You should consider your choice carefully and definitely spend some quality time in a Taycan and a Tesla (or other vehicle that you might be interested in).

Ok guys, that's totally fair, and I was scheduled for a demo and then I got sick, my husband got sick, etc. Our local dealer didn't have any to test when I just took a spot on the waiting list, so it's been about waiting for a trade to come in. I felt weird driving another owner's car, which he did originally offer. This sudden allocation opening was a surprise to me as I had put this on the back burner for a while, since I was 4th on the waiting list.

So tomorrow we have an appointment to drive one he just got in on a trade. I'll let ya know!

But hey, I do like a LITTLE fun... I'm sure Tesla has fine cars, and I have many friends who drive them, but I've just never been wowed or even saw a model that spoke to me. Plus, no way my husband will own a Tesla... he's one of those. I got a friend who is happy with her E-Tron. I've always been ga-ga about Porsches though since I was a kid and I had some family and friends' parents who had 911's. So I was hoping this could be "the one." We shall see! Nothing lost or gained yet!

Thank you for your honesty!

Maybe driving the Taycan will ignite your passion for sporty driving. The styling is beautiful as you know. Just be aware that the technology is okay but can be frustrating if it doesn’t work right.

Anecdotally, this is the first Porsche for me and my wife. She is totally in love with the way it drives (as am I).

Given where you live and how you plan to use the car, I would consider a CT4 and keep the options to 20-30% of base.

@annieland The 4S comes standard with summer tires. If you want all-season tires, they are no-cost option in wheel accessories.

Consider the 2+1 seats. Adds 3rd seat (narrow) in back, but it provides seat cushion all across rear seats, instead of a center plastic tray/support between 2 back seats. I think it makes back seats more functional.

In E-mobility, you want to get the on-board 150kw/400v charger. See posts on forum for reasons.

Consider Porsche crest on front seat headrests instead of on the console.

To reduce cost and complexity, re-evaluate need for technology package. Do you really want remote parking assist, passenger display, and heads-up display? If you delete this package, you do want to option lane change assist/blind spot monitor and adaptive cruise control. Those two options are good to have, in my opinion.

Also, consider whether you want Inno drive. As long as you get adaptive cruise control, you can add Inno drive later via software option.

To charge your Taycan at home it is best to get a device to supply electricity to your car (EVSE). Do not option the Porsche mobile charger connect. Porsche EVSEs have problems. Many threads on this forum about what EVSEs to buy and install.
Home charging: see this thread.

Good luck. Taycan is great car.

Nice build. I’d consider putting the Porsche crest on the headrests, as mentioned above. I only have the front seats specced on mine. If there is room in the budget, definitely add ACC without InnoDrive and then that can be added later through a software purchase. A 3-month trial comes with the car if you add ACC and you can decide later if you want it. I’m not sure it would be useful for suburban driving but I don’t even have my car, yet, so I don’t know for sure. Another advantage is, if you don’t want InnoDrive but like the LKA, you can add them separately through software purchases, whereas if you purchase them with the car, you have to get both. By adding ACC, the car will have the sensors/equipment but it can’t be upgraded with those sensors. I’d also strongly consider the air suspension. It’s a NICE ride.

As for home charging, you’ll want a Level 2 EVSE (often referred to as a charger but it just supplies the electricity while the onboard equipment charges the battery). Severally good options available but search insideevs.com for their comparison videos. I’m installing a Charge Point but there are a lot of options. Also research proper installation and hazards of trying to go cheap… SPOILER ALERT… severe damage or total loss of your house is a small possibility if done incorrectly.

@annieland, our Taycan is my wife’s DD.

She’s not interested in “sporty driving”. She always keeps the car in “normal” and never accelerates in a manner that I would consider aggressive.
She likes the car for other reasons. She like the way it looks, that it handles well/accelerate well (more about the precision, and much better than her old Panamera), things like massaging seats, and not having to go to a gas station. Some other cars tick a lot of those boxes (and maybe some individual boxes better), but not all of them. It’s the best overall car for her.

And it’s been mostly trouble-free for us.

It’s not the right car for everyone though, so do spend time with it and make sure it’s the right car for you. But that’s all you have to worry about. The car can be different things to different people.

Ok, sorry this took forever. Husband and I spent the afternoon with a pre-owned 2020 demo and time spent with my SA going over my build. He's wonderful and advised us on the proper charging setup, which admittedly I was confused about and knew I needed extra guidance on, so we added the appropriate on-board charger and deleted the powered port cover thing. I will definitely get the installation done correctly! I was already researching area specialists on the list provided by my energy company, and I plan to hit up my EV-driving friends for recommendations. I've also been processing and tweaking stuff based on all your helpful feedback and have already made a change with my SA at least once :).

BUT, first impressions? !!!!!!!!!!!!! What words can I use!! Holy !@#&*#@*!!!! I may have undersold myself in my intro, it was just because I didn't want everyone to waste their energy being all, you need this sports upgrade, this sort of torque vectoring, etc. Basically, just regular "Porsche" is the upgrade I need :D. It may sound sad, but now I think I finally understand what "Fun to Drive" means!

I was thinking yesterday... 25 yrs ago for my first car I wanted a Prelude and parents said: Civic. Was so bored after 2 years and wanted a Camaro because I loved my friend's. But then I saw how it performed in snow (little scary experience there!) and ended up with a Toyota Solara convertible. It was probably my least favorite car, but I got the convertible obsession out of my system. Then the husband and kids start showing up and a zippy Focus hatchback becomes a CR-V becomes an Odyssey and once the child seat phase was over I quickly traded for the 2016 Pilot, 1st off the assembly line in July 2015 and it's my favorite DD to date. And we will 100% keep it, as it's got around 50k on it and hasn't cost me a penny in repairs, just regular inexpensive maintenance, knock-on-wood! It hasn't even needed snow tires, which is a big WOW.

Then I surprised my husband with his Stinger a couple years ago (I'm the car buyer/negotiator/family finance person) and then was like, "When do I get MY car??? It's not fair!!" So here we are. Not to continue my wall of rambling I'll make another post specifically about my options and lingering questions.

I built my GTS with no budget in mind and here is what I would recommend. Innodrive is not that great and saves you a few $$. Adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist will be all you need in my opinion especially if you are not in bumper to bumper traffic on a daily. The car is so fun to drive that these tech options are really just for traffic (IMO). I also agree with one poster on here who suggests rethinking the heads up display, passanger screen, and some other additions to the Tech package. I have it and I turn both off for 95% of the time. Even with my wife in the car, perhaps she's using the screen but I never use the HUD. I have a the 18-way seats - very comfortable but if I was rebuilding I would get the 14 way with massage seats. Regarding wheels - and this is where the child in me comes out but I would HIGHLY recommend having fun with some aftermarket wheels. With the black window trim, a nice tint and black wheels on the frozen berry paint would look awesome!

best of luck!

@annieland : go for it! Don’t even think on other than Porsche :like:
With matrix lights, you won’t be affraid to drive at nights anymore.

btw: i haven’t seen RAS/RWS (rear wheel steering); i’d highly recommend it!

edit: i’d also suggest ambient lights so you’ll have lights under (open) door.
lights under mirrors are almost useless.
