Respectfully disagree - exactly why I have a spare in the car - had this exact experience.
:CWL: Sorry, you’re right. You could drive around with a spare tire and a jack taking up all the space in your trunk. Another option is that you could hire a chase van to just follow you everywhere you go and handle any repairs needed.

It is truly very straight forward - a lot of angst amongst many on the forum over this it appears who fear that somehow this car is that radically different to an ICE car in this respect. Yes its heavier and yes you need to be mindful of the battery, PCM config etc., but there are numerous rated portable jack options to safely lift a corner of this vehicle (have a thread on this with examples), but indeed to each their own.

I just personally can't fathom the idea of sitting around waiting on a tow truck when all thats required is swapping a wheel out to get you to the nearest full replacement. Not meant in any way as a criticism just a bit baffling having changed tires on and off (a lot!) road for 40 years w/o any issues and most def not depending on a 3rd party to show up :)!
do you carry a jack and spare in your car?
I don't and haven't for a very long time owning at least 7 different cars. in that time I have had two flats that required road service. both times on the same MB E class and both times that car had a spare that they mounted for me. this was a 1995 car.

Yes I do and again shown multiple times on this forum and with CT the supposed space “issue” is simply not one - complete non-issue.

The jack fits perfectly in the hidden storage with my portable EVSE and pump. - out of sight and out of mind til needed.

We clearly travel different roads as I’ve had far more punctures than you but everyone’s willingness to rely on others is a personal choice - def not mine.

I do appreciate that you Sedan users have less space to play with but that’s your problem ;)

Clearly you are clueless in regards both the capacity of the CT’s storage and the profile of a donut spare - so yes you’re correct I’m right ;)

For those interested here is a link to one thread with info I shared some time ago:

Porsche Taycan Flat tire. Things to consider. IMG_6889

Better sense of scale with a ton of available space in the rear of the CT

Can even stand it up like this (not a good idea re visibility but def to one side if that better suits whatever else you are carrying back there:

Jack EVSE, electric pump etc in hidden storage no problem:

Even with privacy tray on there is more than enough remaining space imo:

Even if I had a CT there's no way I'd keep a spare in the trunk like that. Not worth it for the low probability of having an issue. Not to mention if you're so far from civilization that you can't get decent road side assistance, that donut ain't gonna last you long enough to drive anywhere useful anyway with a couple dozen miles of life at most. And even more unlikely to be that far away from the world in an EV.

Cmon, @ciaranob . Take a little risk and free up your CT cargo space..........

that comment is not even close to reality. donut wheels will get you pretty darned far. but I still wouldn't lug one around like that.

Yep still clueless - this is just too easy
Says the guy driving around with a spare tire in his trunk. You remind me of those GEICO ‘turning into your parents’ commercials. Do you bring your own snacks to the movies?

Exactly - I’ve got plenty of spare tires and wheels in my garage but absolutely useless with a flat miles from home - the whole point of a donut and seriously, have we gotten to the point where people are scared to change their tire! And before someone goes there, with the right jack the cars weight not an issue.
For the Taycan I think it might be more about the spare+jack taking up space in the trunk. If it nicely fit in the frunk, I think more people would opt for one. For all cars though, the cellphone proliferation is probably what changed it. Spare was a lifesaver in days without cell phones, today less so given you can call roadside assistance from almost anywhere. Btw, even roadside assistance guys will tow your car off a highway before putting on a spare. I had a blowout in a 911 once, called Porsche roadside assistance, and that is exactly what they did (I had a donut for the 911, it was 20 years ago).

Spare tire is just one more level of continencies, still will not help you with more than one flat (my wife once got 2 flats on her car, and I once came across more than one person with multiple flats at the same tire store while on a coast to coast trip - someone spilled a bunch of screws on the exit ramp, which caused a bunch of us to show up at the local tire store in the morning). With roadside assistance only a cell phone call away, most people settle on that being enough for the few times in their life they will get a flat (I've had one flat ever, in decades of driving, my wife on the other hand averages one every 2-3 years). I do keep the green goo kit in my car on trips, just in case, even though having tried it the one time I had a flat, it was useless (what helped was putting the screw that punctured the hole back in the tire, enough to drive to a hotel and to tire store in the morning).

I guess this depends on your definition of "far". Most donuts seem to be rated for a maximum of 50-70 miles of life, at a max of 50 mph. So you have at max ~1h to drive if you are pushing the extreme upper limits. If a town is within an hour, just call the tow truck. If it's beyond an hour, you're SOL anyway.

For anyone with the AWD versions, it is definitely not worth the strain on your differential/powertrain to put a donut on that is a vastly different size than your other wheel.
