Add this to the list of annoyances I have with the gearbox. Driving in the highway in Sport Plus, at around 77mph the transmission upshifts to second gear and the car literally jolts forward somewhat violently.

Why are you driving in sport plus on the highway?

You’re telling the car to go in the most aggressive drive mode and then annoyed when it reacts aggressively?

I’m guessing a different combination of drive settings may get you the results you’re looking for. Good thing they’re individually changeable. 👍

Testing the theory that ACC follows better, and I think it does. Doesn’t leave as much of a gap when resuming from a close stop through congested areas. And, I like to flex the rear spoiler full up/down at 59mph, 40mph respectively, lol. Why can’t I have fun without something annoying me.

Jokes aside, I don’t think that jump is supposed to happen. I’ve had a hate relationship with my car’s transmission. Don’t want to think I’m paranoid about it, but doesn’t feel right.

Even in sport plus, the shift should be smooth unless accelerating quickly.

I haven’t had the car long enough to test all the shifting, but I will say I don’t like how aggressive it downshifts in normal mode at half throttle or more. Honestly kinda scared me the first time it happened as I wasn’t expecting it. At full throttle? Totally expected, but it’s one of the reasons I drove in sport if I need to pull out in traffic.

Something is clearly wrong with your transmission if its shifting at 77MPH instead of the normal 62MPH that all Taycan models upshift at.

I drive 100% of the time using the "Individual Mode" setting and Sport Plus is my performance setting in that mode so I don't think that has anything to do with it.

Also my Turbo S has more power than your 4S and I do not have any issues driving/accelerating through 2nd gear. Zero complaints about the transmission or its performance so you might want to get it looked by a dealer.

Hmm. In Sport, the upshift happens somewhere around 50mph in my car. Sport plus 77mph as previously stated.

Maybe I have a tune installed that I don’t know of 🤣. Bought this car CPO last July.

This does not match anything I have ever experienced in my Taycan nor Porsche's own data on how the transmission works. And it's highly unlikely a tune would delay the shift and push it out of it's efficiency window because it would just make your car slower. Something is wrong with your Taycan.

"As shown, at about 100 km/h, or 62 mph, first gear runs out of steam, and the motor isn't able to send much torque to the rear wheels (and at 81 mph, the motor hits its 16,000 RPM max speed), which hurts vehicle acceleration.

It's at the point around 62 mph vehicle speed that the Taycan upshifts, yielding the solid green curve you see below, allowing for more torque at the wheels, and thus more acceleration to a higher top speed."

it’s possible.

Easy way to check is to floor it from a stop, then do the same with launch control.

If launch control isn’t significantly faster, you may have a tune.

Harder way to check (20 minutes) is to remove trim in the trunk and look at the module back there.

I guess I don’t have the goods.

Yeah looks like the stock one.

I’m honestly amazed by how little information is out there regarding the shift speeds in this car.

The most I can find about the differences for shift speeds in different drive modes is that “they’re different.” 😂

This is a bad thing how? Expected for Sport Plus IMO.

That’s interesting, where did it come from and is it for the Taycan and if so which trim?

The upshift threshold doesn’t seem to line up with real world experience. The chart makes it look like 75 km/h is the maximum shift speed but we know that’s not the case.

Yeah I’m second guessing this too. I also assume the available wheel torque in first gear depends on the motors/trim.

Also curious trying to interpret the chart as to how the drivers “torque request” to downshift to first gear (purple line) is somehow higher than the maximum torque in first gear (red line). Wheel torque does seem to multiply by first gear (15:1 ratio) and 2nd (8:1).
