I've just upgraded from a 2020 4S to a 2024 J1 Turbo S Cross Turismo.
Absolutely worth the switch. So much Torque.
How often do you use full throttle, and for how long? Your roads must be very different from our embarrassing ones in Oxfordshire!

I found the chassis options (which it seems few people choose looking at used cars) to be much better value for money than going up a model for more power for the roads around here.

I have had my CT4S 2 years and have used full throttle lots of times for overtaking but never need it for more than a second or two and have never been short of acceleration, in fact I feel the stability control kicking in pretty well every time meaning the electronics are dialling back the power even on a 4S.

You certainly don't need to use full throttle to enjoy more torque.
I very rarely use full throttle but you can feel the huge torque increase even by lightly feathering the throttle.
Not that you can compare electric to Ice but the difference is comparable to upgrading to a torquey V8 from a 6 cylinder.

Hi all

I have a 2021 4S with almost all options and really love my car. The only thing I miss is more power - both at low and high speeds.

I was thinking of getting a used 2020 Turbo S (also J1) but can see that the power difference is “only” 135 HK (625 HK - 490 HK) without launch control. I don’t use launch control, so the 625 HK is what I will be using.

Is the power difference very noticeable?

Or should I rather save some more money up and buy a used J1-2 Turbo in 1-2 years? This have 707 HK and can use all 884 HK in Push to pass, which I will use often. And I can get the Active Ride suspension…
I went from a 2020 Turbo to a 2023 Turbo S and regretted it. For a fraction more power, you lose a lot of range. I'm now looking to go to the 2025 Turbo.
Turbo all the way for me

Why change just to lose even more money due to depreciation. I love my 2020 4S which I purchased October. Not worried about historical issues as a Porsche warranty which also means all recalls have been carried out.

What you feel is the programming of the fly by wire throttle ;)

I am very familiar with using this technique.

If you aren't using full throttle you are not experiencing a difference in motor but a difference in throttle mapping.

4S/GTS/Turbo is the sweet spot IMHO - after that a well optioned GTS will be more satisfying to me than a TurboS along with the savings in the bank account

Thanks for all the replies ?

I agree that a lot of 2020 models have issues and probably too big a risk to take. I’m not into tuning my 4S - would like to keep it original (difficult to sell if has been tuned here in my country).

I lean towards keeping my 4S 2021 a year more, and find a used J1-2 Turbo or Turbo S. Besides getting “the updated model”, I will also get more power than TS J1, active ride suspension, more range etc. Probably a more noticeable upgrade/change than finding a used TS from 2021/2022…

I just hope that the new 718 EV doesn’t change my mind ?

Can you share more? I'm surprised to hear that the range of the Turbo S is that much worse than the Turbo. How much did you lose?

I went from ~250 miles in the Turbo to ~210 in the Turbo S
The latter was an ST and the former was the normal version, apparently the CT and ST are less aerodynamic and you lose a few miles but not 40

The CT and ST have about 20% more body drag than the saloon, so will lose most range if used as a motorway car.

The other big drag increase comes from wider tyres, the 21" rims are wider than the 20" and 19". The spoke shape does make a difference but not as much as the width.

You can go with the secondary ECU option, meaning you can "untune" in an hour or less (some people claim they can do it in 15 minutes) by swapping out the tuned ECU with the original untuned one. So before selling it, just unplug the new ECU and plug in the old/original one. Problem solved.
