Not in UK all J1.2s have PB+ and can't imagine NA or RoW any different- this was one of the key facelift changes...hence the extra range.
In Europe PB+ is still an option on the J1.2's, GTS and above get it standard (as always been the case)
Note this is for the sedan and sport turismo, the cross turismos always have the PB+

Well then you have to work on your “imagination”

In US, Germany and entirety of continental Europe and pretty much rest of the world except UK, PB+ is still an option for RWD and 4S and it gets you higher Torque and HP along with the bigger battery pack.

UK is part of Europe.

Configurator confirms base Taycan and upwards.

Appreciate the advantage of PB+ so don't need the lesson on that. (I've had 2 Taycans since 2021)

Astonished that it is standard only in UK and not everywhere else and normally we'd follow continental Europe's lead.

We also stopped the Taycan 4.

How do you know it is the efficiency gains but not the battery size?
I look at the consumption every journey, have done for over 55k miles in J1.1 and 17k in J1.2.

The total range improvement is conformably +30% half from bigger battery and half from the improved efficiency.

Interestibg for sure but marred by using WLTP as a measure which is lab based and wildly optimistic.

Is there a real world example...I'm guessing not?

I'll settle for the larger battery as the main (obvious) reason.
All fuel economy and energy testing is based on rolls cycles. That's how it's done - same with EPA etc. It's the cycle that makes the difference.

In any case, it's a comparison from one to another so the cycle isn't so important.

Update from O/P
After just over 2 months in the workshop, I've been told to expect the J1.1 Turbo S back by the end of the week, with J1.2 battery. It will be interesting to see what the range will be

Keep us posted. Assuming it's all just software blocking, @prj might be able to unlock some things :D

j1.1 taycan with j1.2 battery and unlocked/moded by services like MapEV from @prj would do wonders for the value of j1.1 cars.

The range should not change indeed. Reliability yes. Hopefully it'll be able to fast charge in a larger range of temperature, needing less pre-heating. Maybe not at a faster speed in kW (it would need the J1.2 battery management system and chargers).

But maybe the battery will accept 200+ kW earlier and for a longer time?

It really does not make sense for them to spend the time on customization in software to integrate the part only to then artificially cap the larger usable capacity of the later battery pack.

Indeed, I'm not expecting Porsche to do any additional thing for us.
The only (small) hope would be that the charging current limit could be computed from battery signals: if the battery gives better signals earlier, there's a small chance the battery management system would allow faster charging. I don't give it a high chance, maybe 20% to 30%...
But only one testing the facts can confirm or infirm it.

Well I have an update on this. From what I am being told by my dealer through Porsche HQ. The 1.2 battery will not work in the 1.1 cars. The new battery is instead (from my understanding) a 1.1 battery with all the hardware and cells from the 1.2. They have been going back and forth with HQ for the past month to figure this out. This does require an additional modification kit for it to be installed. Based off this I doubt the extra cells are put into the battery. I will be happy to plug PRJ scanner in mine to see for sure.

Not at all.. your dealer is clueless. The battery is indeed a 9J1.2 battery. Untouched.

An adapter kit is needed mainly because the coolant inlet and outlet sit at a different angle on the new battery, so you need an adapter.

But the battery itself is exactly the 9J1.2 battery

Who knows then guess I’m just getting a 1.1 battery. It’s more of Porsche messing with my dealer as they were trying to get the new battery. Porsche has screwed around with them for the past month on it.
