I've spent several months test driving and reading about the Taycan, 992, and etron Gt. We currently own the etron SUV and it has exceeded my expectations. We get a genuine 300 mile range and on octopus energy night tariff it costs us less than £25 a month to run, and we do three long trips a week. I'm looking to swap by 718 which I really enjoy and have always aspired to own the 911. The taycan is beautifully appointed, very practical and drives well too but it just doesn't excite me. I know it's a personal preference but the front end really put me off, whereas the 911 still has the icon shape and lines. As a teenager I had two posters on my bedroom wall, one was Sam Fox and the other a 911. I'm not sure how Sam Fox faired with the passage of time but the 992 still raises my pulse. I've just put a deposit down on a 992 but the delivery date seems to be talked about in years rather than months. I'll see how the timing goes but I may switch to the new 718 EV along the way if they do a convertible as suggested.

Do you mean 200 mile range for the Etron? 300 would have to be coasting downhill with a tailwind! Even in an Etron 55.
718 is 2025! Long wait! Have a Taycan until then. Trade in Etron for 911.
I have Etron50 and waiting for 2nd Taycan. I am getting it on D Day.
Hopefully.
Love the Etron but it is hopelessly inefficient. But it charges like a wounded bull so balances out! I get no more than 160 miles out of the 50 even when ‘Driving Miss Daisy’

Hey,

My car is still with the dealer (4th month) with no ending in sight. I might have chance to flip for a 911. Never had it before, but visually it looks nice and performance wise seems quite comparable, probably slightly slower. Particular swap car could be base carerra cabrio. I rarely have more than one passenger and cargo space is irrelevant.

Will I regret the flip? :)

Thanks,
J.
You absolutely will not regret the flip.

First of all, try $6 a gallon for a car that gets 19 mpg at best. I went the other way and traded in my 2012 911 GTS for the 4S and never looked back. I loved my GTS, don't misunderstand me, but it was time to move on. Electric is the way to go.

Sometimes I wonder about the reality of saving money on fuel vs. the perception of how much you save, particularly for high end cars. Not saying it's not great to be able to save money driving an EV as well as other benefits of EV, but even at 10k miles per year, 19mpg and $6 per gallon, it only totals about $3150 per year in gas. On a $100k+ car, that's the difference between a 10% or 13% annual depreciation, and I doubt that most people are heavily weighing anticipated depreciation curves for the cars they are buying

Nobody has ever regretted a 911. Do it!

Admittedly I miss mine, but I'm not going back to ICE.

you have a very valid point, I am now spending $3k to install a 50 amp line in my condo's garage, that 3k would pay for a lot of fuel

Dont choose, get an older 911 for fun driving and old school thrills and the Taycan for state of the art in tech and low running costs. The last of the smaller, analogue 911's that wont blow up is the 997.2 snap one up while they are still cheap. I did.

Sam Fox is now happily married I understand. However, lord knows she spares us from a page 3 renaissance at this ripe old age. I have breakfast to think about.

Hashtag gag.

OP, it seems like this is something you have to know about yourself.

For me, 911. As much as I like our Taycan (and haven’t had issues with it), my ideal car is a manual cab, something the Taycan is decidedly not. But if it was between the Taycan and a PDK coupe 911, I’d probably take the Taycan.

For me they are not really comparable cars.

For decades I have had 2 cars, a saloon or estate car for family and every day use and a convertible 2 seater for fun.

I never actually thought any of the 911 convertibles looked nearly as nice as the coupe, personally, so whilst I tried them I never bought a 911 cabrio because of the looks.

Now I am an old bloke with grandchildren 2 seats is rarely enough so the 2 seater hardly ever gets used. I am buying a Taycan to replace the saloon car and the sports car. 4 seats and sporty handling but no open air motoring :(

I am totally converted to the throttle response and overall engineering superiority of an electric motor over an IC engine despite being a bit nervous about rechargable batteries.

On that basis it is definitely what suits your use case, I am definitely considering keeping my convertible 2-seater though logic says I should sell it!
