I have a 2002 CT 4 with winter tires. I need summers to replacemyPirellis 20 inch. I am not an aggressive driver (89) and I like what I’ve read about the summer Hankook. Is there any reason ( safety, handling, noise etc.) toconsiderAS vsthe summers?

This is hip pocket response, and I have not been in the tire market for a couple years. Having said that, unless Hankook has come up with a more modern compound summer tires tend to get harder as the temps fall. It affects their grip even in the rain.

In Maine, unless you said you garage the Taycan in the winter, either AS or winter tires seem a better choice.

Everything is a compromise unless you want to get into extra wheels, etc. You know best if AS will work in your conditions, or if you need a more aggressive tire.

Thanks. I Do have a full set of good winter tires. My question basically then is what advantage does the Hankook summer tire have ( in the summer) over the Hankook all season.

When you say 89 above, is that your age? Because if that’s true I want to still be able to drive my car then like you, my friend.

Summer tires offer more grip in dry (lateral and straight line), better braking (in warm/hot climate) and are more responsive.

If you're not an aggressive driver or don't want to exploit the performance characteristics of the car then A/S are usually a better choice since they are quieter, offer longer life, better range (MPG) and usually offer more comfortable (softer) ride.

*This is generally speaking for summer vs A/S. Certain tires do certain things better than others.
That said maybe look into the 'DWS 06 plus' its an all seasons with little performance compromise for a non aggressive driver.

If you're not an aggressive driver (at any age -- although I'm especially impressed by anyone still driving a Taycan who is a full three decades older than me!), then any performance edge of a summer over all-season is going to lose on a total year-round basis by having to run your winter tires for more of the year up there in Maine.
I have no idea what your switchover protocol might be, but before all-weather tires, I would usually switch over to my winter tires just before Thanksgiving and swap them back out in early April.
Even with Central European / Performance winter tires, that was still a noticeable downgrade on dry pavement compared to all-season tires.
Had I been running summer tires though, I would have to extend the season of my winter tires by about a month on either end.
I think the easiest solution is to replace your current non-winter 20" setup with the Michelin CrossClimate2 and run that year-round (then sell your winter 20" setup). I'm totally happy with that setup on my 4CT, and that includes lots of time driving near Mt Washington, including the Cog access road.

I am 89 and I’m lucky enough to still be able to appreciate and love my Taycan.i’ve told my friends that Inever had a mid life crisis.so I decided to have an old life one. I’m not interested in a performance tire, I want one that is quiet and brakes well so I might enjoy a few more drives in,y car😀😀

Thanks Jonathan, I’ve enjoyed a lot of your posts, especially those related to charging ( or the lack thereof in New England). If the Hankook summer tire is really a performance tire I’m not sure it would have any advantage for me unless it was significantly quieter or shorter braking distance over the AS then the latter is probably the better choice. My winter tires were picked up on the cheap but are on 21” wheels. I guess I could sell them and keep the all seasons year round since my skiing days are over😥

Haven't tried the AS version but the summer tyre's great (noise, range, grip) and I have used that in UK winters (briefly at around 20degF) and they were OK (driving to the conditions). Never really used them in snow and ice though.

If you have a set of winters, I see no real reason to get the All Seasons...unless winters aren't that harsh and you want to move to a single set of wheels/tyres. Though in that case am not sure Hankooks are the go to All Seasons?

I would usually excuse that at age 89, but if you're still able to get into and out of a Taycan, then you must still be in better physical condition that many lift-served downhill skiers I see out there!

Thanks to all for your opinions. I think the all seasons from Hancook make the most sense. Problem is no one seems to carry them. Walmart had the front tires, tire rack had 21” but no one I found had the appropriate 20” Hancook all seasons. The new Michelin ePrimacy sounds like a good choice. Any experience out there with that tire?
