Service person said she "may" find a loaner for me this week. I'm gonna have a chat with their general manager soon, this is pretty inconvenient and unacceptable.

In 2 months I dont even need a heater, on top of the heater issue, I get my frunk randomly open while parked in garage.

My dealer just told me the part takes about 2 months to arrive from Germany
My heating system failed end of October, 2022. I dropped it off at dealer early Dec. Diagnosed as needing new heater a day later. Dealer said parts ordered the heater after 4pm that day, and I was told heater arrived at dealer next day. Repair was delayed because coolant was needed. Heater was replaced and 3 other campaigns/updates completed. Picked car up 8 days after drop-off.

If I had wanted a loaner, work would not have been scheduled until mid-January.

Well, I didn't even ask about a loaner, she suggested it after she said it takes 1-2 months for parts to arrive directly from Germany, she said she's already fixed a dosen other cars with the exact same issue.

My 4S has been in the Leeds Porsche Centre for a month and yesterday they admitted to having had over 40 Taycans recovered to them for the same heater issue.

They now have parts, but can only do one car a day...and I'm number 22 on the list so will be without the car for at least another month! This really should have been a model recall as they knew about the problem over a year ago.

Terrible for the customers and the brand image.

Update: tomorrow the new heater will reach the dealer, but it I’ll be installed not earlier than Monday because they need a special operator to install on high voltage...
I hope it’ll not take long and I can take the car back on same day

My Update:
After exactly 21 days, Porsche Hatfield got in touch finally to inform that my heater issue has been fixed & to come & collect the car which will do tomorrow.
It seems from the phone call that other Taycan with heater issues at Hatfield had their resolved as well.

when they say it's fixed, does that mean that the exact same part was replaced and it will happen again with the next cold weather or is it really fixed?

The part they're currently using to fix the issue "PAD-963-507" has a listing in Porsche dealer's parts catalogues as "Replaces 9J1-963-507-D."

If you google the earlier part number you'll also see references to 9J1963507C, and 9J1963507E.

So it looks like there have been a few versions they've gone through over the years. I'm assuming the switch from the 9J1963507C, D, and E version to the PAD version is an attempt to fix the ongoing issues.

In Porsche parts nomenclature, the prefix is usually the model line/code (9J1 == Taycan), or a generic 900 (for shared parts, such as generic fasteners, clips etc.) A non-Porsche prefix - like PAD in this case - indicates an OE part, one not made specifically by or for Porsche (won't have the P engraving).

The suffix is, indeed, the iteration of the design of that part; it used to be numbers but perhaps they went hexadecimal (haha). The sum of the above sounds like an emergency part/iteration was made directly by the OE supplier, and is fast-tracked to service shops, bypassing the Porsche parts qualification process. That is, there is clearly some urgency on their part, which makes the absence of a recall campaign all the more infuriating.

Cool! I didn't know about the body code in the part number versus the significance of the use of "PAD." Thanks!

Hi all,

Just another to add to this thread that I now also have the heater fault.

Car hasn't been used much due to Christmas and New Year Holiday, as mainly use it for work commuting and the wife's for taking the family out.

When the car was set to preheat this week, nothing came out which I thought was odd (as usually the Taycan heats up really fast, almost too hot at times). Then when I was leaving work on a cold evening, struggled to demist the screen although I could feel the seat heating and steering wheel heating was on which helped the comfort.

Eventually the screen cleared with the cold air and I thought it was just a software bug (like the many issues I had with PCM before). Sometimes a shutdown, lock and unlock of the car fixes most of these.

As the issue was still going on I rang the dealership who have said its a common fault, and Porsche Solihull have said they have no loaners. I contacted Porsche Assistance who said Enterprise can give a loaner.

I will probably drop the car off to the Solihull branch and await the courtesy car there, no idea how long it will take to fix though. They said the car will need diagnosis first however and parts to be ordered in. Surely though Porsche AG should be supplying a stock of these heaters to the dealers so they can be fitted in as soon as diagnosis occurs?

Bit strange loads of people are having the issue at once this year - my model is a 2021 RWD.

I suspect it’s seasonal only because it’s rare to use the heater outside of winter. There have been failures outside of the winter season too though, which makes me think this isn’t just a cold weather issue.

So what are the symptoms?
- random fog ups? Or is this still considered a feature rather than a failure?
- no blower, or just cold blower?
Could I just put my heater on 30c and see if the gets really warm?

The blower works normally but only blows cold air and nothing happens even if you set it to 30 Celsius. Still only cold air. If the heater works you should feel hot air within a short time.
