Ordered a car in 12/2021. Was prepared for April 2022 delivery but my car was apparently totaled and undeliverable when it came across on the SFL composer.
So now I’m back in the ordering process and my dealer is telling me that the car now costs 4K more as they are moving to 2023 models with an additional 5 month wait time! Needless to say I’m pretty upset about this little surprise. Basically I’m getting the same car without any upgrades for 5% more cost. Obviously this is not about affordability on a 6 figure car but this is about principle. My dealer told me that there is nothing that they can do and told me to call Porsche of North America who basically told me that the local dealers set the price and that there is nothing they can do on their end either….
Any suggestions on any recourse I can have in this instance???

haven't you gotten your answer?

either proceed with the purchase or buy a different vehicle seems to be the only options you are presented with…

circumstances sometimes cause problems - there isn't always "recourse" - sometimes you have to play the hand you're dealt.

The dealer can discount on MSRP; and probably enough to get you back to prior pricing. Doesn't sound like your dealer is willing to do that, guess with current supply issues they don't feel the need to discount as they can sell at full MSRP (or above) right now.

So, as Dave shared, you have three choices: suck it up, cancel the order or switch to another dealer if the principle means enough to you. But doesn't seem like it's the dealers fault and so not surprised they don't want to take the profit hit when the volume they are shifting is already much lower than normal.

Yeah, shop around if there are multiple dealers near you. Sometimes it pays to even buy from a different town, and have it shipped or go pick it up like I've done before. For mine, the first dealer refused to discount, the second gave a small one, and the third a bit more. So, you just need to shop around. In these times, the balls are in their court so you either play by their rules or you don't play.

Had you paid for the car or just the deposit at the stage they said your car was dead?

Either way, it would seem honourable to hold the price for you and expedite delivery of the new one. It's the fault of porsche, not yours. They can give the bill to their carrier.

No honour among car-dealers i guess.

I had just paid the deposit. I understand that it’s a sellers/dealers market and they don’t have to do anything because there will be another person waiting to buy a car. But when your car is wrecked during delivery I totally place the blame on Porsche. And that they don’t want to do anything to help a customer in this specific situation is disappointing to say the least. Might try shopping around again but I’m worried I’ll be placed in back of the line again and who knows when I’ll actually get the car. Right now slated at least for a 9/2 delivery….posted this originally to see if anyone else was going through same situation because I know many cars were damaged on that boat…

Very frustrating but with inflation at +10% and you getting the MY23 car that will have more up-to-date tech under its skirt, then I would say about the former: you should be desperately spending or investing, so this is a good thing - your car will depreciate at a slower pace; and about the latter: you will have a Taycan that potentially has more technical problems ironed out.

Really, the only thing annoying here is the unexpected and extended wait.

Be patient, it will all be worth it. If you are fortunate enough to afford a Taycan, earning money is evidently not a problem, so that $4k will quickly be seen again.

It's out of order. They should stand by your original deal. If nothing else you should probably be beating them up to throw in some dealer options for free or cost at a minimum. PPF etc.

My Taycan was on the Composer too. Luckily no damage. My dealer had 5 cars totaled. About the $4K. The Taycan is such a wonderful car I would have paid another $4K. The additional 5 month wait would kill me.
