I did it..went over to the dark side. Even though I love electric cars (and my 2nd car is also electric): I sold my Taycan (god bless Carvana) and ordered an ICE.

I had complained in this forum about difficulty getting my Taycan serviced (long delays due to lack of EV techs). I had also been concerned that, when my factory warranty ends in a little while, I would have to buy expensive extensions or take the gamble that VERY expensive service might be needed.

Those concerns finally forced me to do the “unthinkable” and sell the Taycan (and buy the ICE).

I’ve had it with the many software upgrades, parts failures, service delays, battery health declines .. ..just the feeling that I was living in a constant BETA process and waiting for the REALLY expensive “other shoe” to drop.

Ironically, my other EV (a much less expensive KIA EV6) has the advantage of a 10 year warranty (15 years on a critical electric part (ICCU)..so things are more bearable for the EV6.

I love Porsches and have owned a number of them (including, way back, a 356!))..but this one took me over the edge. Farewell my lovely: special ordered, lovely cherry red metallic, so sexy..farewell
Now that it appears Porsche will (may?) be discontinuing the Taycan, I am doubly happy for having sold it to Carvana. I predict that discontinuation will depress prices even further. (The Taycan will go the way of the 928..NOT the 918 (a prediction))

We love our Corvette Z06; truly a race car that we love on the street too.. It is so loud and proud and certainly earns its certification as a car guzzler — that will remain in our garage. But we’re going the opposite way as the OP Has chosen, for when our Macan EVTurbo lease is over, next year will see a Taycan GTS sharing our garage.

Even if Porsche ends the Taycan (certainly quite possible), IMO it will remain as historically gorgeous and memorable as an XKE has. We were sorry we did not buy an ending year XKE, but will not make that mistake this time around.

You likely predict wrong.

When performance cars get discontinued, the used prices tend to go up significantly.

I can’t think of an example where this wasn’t the case.

Some examples:
Dodge Challenger
Chevy SS
Chevy Camaro
Audi R8 and TT
Toyota Supra
Acura NSX
Nissan GTR
Ford GT500
All the hellcats when Dodge temporarily got rid of the Hemi.

And if you want EV examples- I bet the Model S and X plaid hold their values much better now that they’re discontinued.

No 2028 Taycan would be the best thing that could happen to resale value for us.

Predictions are so hard. You may be right or I may be right. It will take years to know! I am humbled by the difficulty....

I think the Tesla's are a bad example since Elon likes to screw with pricing to meet quarterly numbers. Those adjustments screwed any Tesla values since ~2018 or so.

I don't think we've seen an example of an EV holding it's value yet, but if there is going to be one, the Taycan seems like the best candidate.

It may not hold its value as well as ICE counterparts, all I’m saying is that it being discontinued will be better for resale than if they came out with a newer better model.

My guess is the plaids will hit a “floor” for a while after discontinued unless Tesla comes out with something as fast and new.

Predicting the future is hard.

Interpreting the past is easy. I’m just doing the latter.

When models are discontinued, the resale value of the used ones is typically better than if a new version comes out.

Simple laws of supply and demand. If you want a Taycan, you will have to buy a used one.

Look what already is happening with CT and ST Taycans in the US now that you can’t buy a new one.

When EVs become standard, the original EVs will likely become collectible. By then replacement batteries would be cheaper.

Maybe? But EVs have been around longer than gas powered cars. The collectibility of the old ones didn’t go up with new battery technology.

Batteries have always been the problem. And if we continue to rely on batteries to power the electric motors, I don’t think EVs will ever be able to completely replace other fuel types. I wish we could come up with a better fuel source for electric cars.
