So after 7000 miles in my GTS i got in the car last night for the dash to advise me I had a flat.... Indeed I did. I pumped it up and it held pressure for me to get home. I then inspected the tyre and found a Philips screw head about 5cm from the edge of the tyre.

I have the 21" spyder alloys and its of course the wider rear tyre. Given the mileage I imagine I'll have to replace both.

I'm on the Goodyear eagle F1's from factory so I assume I'll just have the same tyres fitted. I was thinking i might change tyre when I change all four but this has forced my arm so I don't think I have much choice. I'd rather run the same tyre all round i guess.

£650 down the drain fml.

Why don’t you go to a tire shop and fix the puncture? I don’t get it why one wants to replace a tire because of that

I took out alloy and wheel insurance (3 yrs). One puncture leading to a tyre replacement and it's already paid for itself. No brainer next time around I'd advocate.

I have factory Pirellis on my GTS ST - assumed all UK cars had the same but obviously not. Agree not to mix and match brand even though it ought not be a problem.

Well, if that’s insurance that covers, then drill a bigger hole to have them replaced for sure :D

I would get 2 rears. This is too close to the edge. The new policy in the US is that the dealer will not repair or plug the damage from a screw.

I have replaced 4 different tires from blow outs, screws and nails over 34k miles and two Taycan's, not to mention three windshields. These cars are a magnet for bad luck from road hazards.

Plug and patch it. I’m in the screw business and regularly have screws in my tires from my warehouse. Always plug and patch (but you can only have one per tire). Should cost you about $20

Right. They prefer to charge you 2x for a new tire. Brilliant business idea :)
Definitely can’t patch/plug if on the edge.
Don’t take to dealer, they’ll never patch/plug, they always want to sell tire (as a side note, many dealers drive your car down the road to a tire shop and up charge you).

Ok so took it to a local tyre place; they removed the tyre and showed me how close to the edge it was saying they couldn't do it. They didn't have the tyres (obviously) so weren't looking for a sale.

Mind you - the rears are 3mm each side after only 7500 miles. Bloody hell. I'm surprised really as my 2250kg 600bhp RS6 easily got 15 - 20k out of tyres....

New boots going on tomorrow.
