This was my third attempt at using IONITY chargers in the eastbound direction at Wetteren Zuid (I've never tried the chargers in the westbound direction). The first time was earlier this year and there seemed to be work going on to add some more units, which I suppose could explain the poor performance, but it shouldn't really have had an impact. It took several attempts to even start a charge as each unit I tried just wasn't commencing the charging process. On the third or fourth attempt it eventually worked, but with a power of around 50 kW. After five minutes I gave up and made it around 40km to Brussels. About a month later I tried again in exactly the same circumstances with exactly the same results. I decided to leave it a few months before trying again. That moment came two days ago. This time the charging did start immediately and reached 173 kW where it remained exactly for around fourteen minutes before I unplugged.

On all three ocassions I used them at around 2am and where I was the only user. The battery was in the perfect condition for a very fast charge (pre-conditioned, at a low SoC). 173 kW isn't terrible, but it's not 250-260 kW, which is what I get pretty much every time I use other IONITY chargers in the same conditions.

If they're this poor when I'm the only user, then I fear they will be even worse with a few other cars plugged in. As a comparison, I was getting 268 kW at around 50% SoC at IONITY Maidstone earlier in the journey (and still pulling 150 kW at 73%), and this is fairly typical.
That's good info. I was planning to use Wetteren at around 830am on my way out. Not because I need a charge but we're stopping for a coffee after an early start so may as well throw in some charge. I'm unlikely to see a really good speed as I'll be topping up with around 50% SOC.

I'll report back after my trip as I'll likely use the other side for a low SOC to high SOC fill.

Thanks, I'd appreciate your feedback.

If it helps, the IONITY chargers at Veurne on the Belgian/French border have always been superb, as have the IONITY chargers at "Living Tomorrow" just off the Brussels ring road, although they only have four units there.

When do you expect to use them?

Oh, what was the issue at Wetteren? I'm planning to use them on the way out and way back.
Have you considered the Ionity in Calais? It is a small detour from the Chunnel, but has worked everytime I have used them. There are six or so chargers and they have been free most of the times. And a restaurant and coffe in the hotel.

The other option is to use the Tesla SuC at Folkestone terminal, but that requires having the 150 kW option installed. They also work great.

In Calais they are installing a number of chargers and I used a 50 kW last time while waiting for my train departure. PCS worked fine .

Yes, I can concur with this. I've used the Calais IONITY once, and it was fast and empty at 1am.

The hotel at the IONITY chargers (Holiday Inn) is also quite good for an overnight stop. Only a few meters from the charger so easy to pop out and get the charge on while at breakfast or while unpacking. We got a good price for a decent basic room.

Planning to use Wetteren outbound on 17th July and on the return on the 24th July.

(I'll report the other stops on the way to/from Budapest as well)

Wasn't planning on using Living Tomorrow on the basis that I'd use Wetteren on the way out and thus avoid the detour.

Might give Veurne a go after a "splash n dash" at Wetteren on the way back for a coffee. It will be the last charge before I use Maidstone before getting home.
