Unlike some, I don’t see the need to look at my phone when driving. CarPlay is enough: Waze on short drives with music, easy to control… but the factory installed Porsche induction phone overheating device in the very handy and easy to open and access armrest doesn’t do it for me.

I came up with what I think is a great idea, which is to mount a MagSafe charger pad in the opening of the Porsche useless cubbyhole (that’s the official name for the area by your knee that’s designed to put stuff in so it can fall out while you’re in the twisties and therefore up the challenge level by impeding your foot access to the unnecessary go an slow pedals, right?)

I figured out my iPhone 17 pro max (deluxe mark 1, the final chapter) will exactly fit on its side, facing out horizontally if I could engineer a mount that would clip, or better, 3M command strip, onto the bottom lip.

problem is that I’m an ideas guy, not an actual doer (my wife will back me up on this unless I’m doing a nap, which I’m highly skilled at… so I need some help!

anyone interested in helping out with this project?

I have 2, one for each side, MagSafe generic rubber pad things that I bought from Amazon/ebay, double sided tape, stuck down in the useless cubby, cables routed to rear usb c ports. I’ll try and find the link, failing that I’ll get a picture

Biggest downside is you lose a cup holder.
But we NEED that cupholder! That’s where my wife puts her hair ties, tissues, change, glasses, receipts, massage ball, etc after she runs out of room for those items in the other cup holder!

I need to preserve two cup holders. My idea is to store it in the same “on its side” configuration as inside the inexcessible arm cave but near my knee clocking access to the useless contingent foot mess area. That way I can get in the car, easily place my phone to charge and still share coffee space with my wife. The penalty for using up a cup holder for a charger is coffee stains or cup sweat stains on the race Tex seat.

That's the one I have as well and it works great. I'm not giving up a cup holder and this one that clips on the facia is easier to glance down at than the cupholder type. I just run the charge cable from the USB connection in the glovebox which is only about 10 inches. Very minimalist look to it

I’d rather keep the phone clip off the pretty Race Tex (do you think Tex rides an Alacantra?) what I’m thinking is something that cover the side access to the underside cubbyhole. So my phone becomes almost a door to that section. Easy to drop phone in while getting into the car. I don’t need it’s screen while I drive.

My wife worries about me and tells me I need to pay attention when I drive.

just the other day she called me to tell me there was a wrong way driver on the freeway and I better be careful.
I told her it wasn’t just one! There must have been hundreds!

Inside is padded with foam, so you aren’t putting anything in the Race Tex, but I hear you, about the safety first.
