Most of my previous cars had a small indicator incorporated in the side mirrors.
So you could make sure you were indicating at a glance when making a manoeuvre without having to check the dash.

I really miss it in this car.

Was it an option at all, or just not something Porsche do?

Yes - Lane assist option includes the indicator in the mirror...

Different generation of cars. The Taycan and 992 share mirrors (identical except for the base) and don't have indicator lights.

I get the whole options thing but charging for what should be, and is in almost every other car, included as basic safety equipment really does grate a little......

I think he is referring to the turn signal indicator.
I think you're right. Many modern cars put the side marker light on the mirrors, and the light is often designed so that it's partially visible to the occupants of the vehicle as well.

Here in the States, the "traditional" side marker lights were only reliably present on low-volume European imports. Pretty sure they were factory-deleted on VWs and maybe even most BMWs. So it's an indicator not just of one's intent to turn but also of the vehicle's exclusivity. After a fashion. It's for this (unquestionably silly) reason that I was pleased to see the Taycan retained independent side marker lights.

...although I wish they were clear instead of amber.

You can switch them out. There was another thread that talked about that and the parts are available from SunCoast. I'll probably have my dealer do it for me once my car arrives. I believe that the light is still amber when lit but the casing is clear. https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/clear9j1.html?Category_Code=TAYCANV2EXTACC

Yeah that’s my feeling too. Added it but surprised they aren’t mandated now, and no folding mirrors as standard is utterly baffling on such an expensive and wide vehicle ?‍♂ . Naturally…options don’t get counted in PCP residuals either so all jolly clever for the bean counters if not the safety team.

I would have liked just the smaller lights on the bottom of the mirror to show the turn indicator is flashing.

The (overtaking) light on the inside of the mirror must end up like a non-stop strobe flashing on busy UK motorways?

So I think the best bet for me is to just learn to listen that the turn indicators are defo on at busy junctions (where I used to double check using the mirrors).

To match the standard spec of my Prius PHEV I would have to add £8,500 of extras to my Taycan order so I haven't ordered all of them, including this. On the Toyota it also warns about traffic passing behind you if you are about to reverse which is at least as useful as lane change blind spot warning but for that one needs to option remote park assist which requires other options which together come to over £3000, so I didn't bother.
My Prius, which I will keep, at least for a while, is MUCH better equipped and easier to park than my Taycan will be but not as much fun (I hope).
