Hi all -

Any clue where this screw came from? I found it in my cupholder following a hand wash; I’m presuming they found it while cleaning the interior, so I’m assuming it came from somewhere inside but I suppose there’s the chance they found it on the ground (and that it may not even belong to my car). Any insight would be greatly appreciated 😬

12 point inset splines certainly looks like it could be from your Taycan. That kind of bolt is typically used to secure something very securely to the body. Possibly a seat track? Child seat anchor?

Screws like that are used to secure the 4 tie down eyelets to the floor of the boot (trunk) amongst other things.

I'd guess seat rail or tie down point as others note above...

On a different topic, do you know how to remove the cargo area floor that the tie down points go through?

Tie down points seem possible but no idea how to access them given that they’re all covered with plastic caps 🙃 And I’d thought about the seat rails but my god it’s hard to see down there 😂

If you have nothing rattling or loose a "spare" bolt is probably nothing to obsess over. It is entirely possible it was dropped during assembly and not retrieved. Consider it a no-cost Porsche option?

Photos courtesy of https://www.redshift-performance.com/ from when I installed their tuned ECU. Make sure you have the correct bi-hex / spline tool for the bolt heads or you risk stripping them. Ask me how I know:mad:

Nope, they don't look like that at all.
Here's one:

It's more likely from the cabin, probably seat rails.
I wouldn't take any chances and check the seats immediately.
Better safe than sorry.

You can strip them even with the correct tool, if the damned screw is overtightened and won't come out. As me how I know :CWL:

How??
These tools are specifically designed to have the most grip of any tool, even better than torx.
Or you just have used an inferior quality tool...🤔

Had a really stubborn screw that wouldn't come out. It got stripped when I applied full force of a driver with a lever for more force. It might have been slightly pre-stripped (possibly damaged when they were over-tightening it at the factory) and the bit might have partially come out of the screw as I was wrestling with it, so less contact area. I eventually got it out (I got lucky, the brute force that stripped it also loosened it so I could get it out). I ended up slotting it to reuse as I didn't have a replacement. Porsche factory is supposed to have torque specs, but they also miss things (I know of at least two missing clips/fasteners I found so far, one of them under the rear trunk floor, which was supposed to hold the sound proofing rubber, the other one on an internal panel - there wasn't even any sign of there ever being one, but the panel stays on just fine so left it like that - tried order one but after ordering it it never came, it was $0.70 IIRD, not important enough for me to order it again as I never wrote down the part number and it took about 30 minutes for the parts counter to find it in the first place).
