A Porsche dealer in Germany told me that there is a software update coming whereby the car has to come in. I have an appointment for a rear light replacement and they hope to have the software update too. I bring the car in on 25th Oct.
However, I haven't seen any postings about a new release yet, nor have I read sth about it on the German Taycan forum.

Is there any information about any upcoming software update?
Cheers

Hopefully they took into account the two most wanted features:
1) A button to preheat the battery
2) A button to activate launch control power all the time.
We all wish!!!!

On top of that I hope for door handles extending every time I'm approaching the car and smoother App/PCM interface. The app takes over 1 minute to connect and any command takes 15 seconds. And nicer graphics, its very similar to old Panamera PCM.

I think the only benefit on pre-heating would be if the car was plugged in...and I think you can already do battery pre-heating when plugged in by using a timer?

Agree on the power front. Maybe have it as part of one of the modes (or settable as part of one of the modes).

I'd like to see
  • The ability to put any of the current info choices in any "tube". Why can't I put "media" in the left tube? Or even have it left and right if I really wanted
  • Voice control being faster to respond
  • Voice control being able to search on more things, including and especially media on USB (if my 2016 Volvo can do it...)
  • Better use of the buttons for media and other control...e.g.
    • With media in the right tube (not left or anywhere else as that's verboten)...
    • I can get a list of radio stations or tracks by pressing the right wheel button...
    • Why can't I go to the top of the list and press ".." to go up a level in whatever hierarchy that got me there (album search, artist search or whatever)?
    • Why can't there be another ".." at the top of that tree that lets me choose media? Or my "favourites"
  • Sliders for scrolling through lists could be a little more user friendly (a bit bigger and more "available", so not needing to start by flicking through a list)
  • I'd like to create "tiles" from any of the PCM settings type options....and I'd like to be able to put some of them on the lower screen too. So if I want the external cameras on, I'd like to create a tile for that and drop it on a screen. Same with any other option (it's possible as it seems Porsche tune what is shown by default based on options installed...).
Having been critical of PCM before, it's soooooo close to actually being properly usable.
  • It'd be quite nice if Android Auto/Car Play fully integrated with the instrument cluster/HUD. That might preclude wanting some of the above

I'm sure I'll have more moans as I use the car more :D

Preheat refers to the cabin - AC, rear demister, seats and steering wheel - not the battery in isolation.

I am pretty sure it includes the battery though.

Obviously with its vast thermal capacity the battery takes a l-o-n-g time to heat up compared to the cabin etc and that will be why the preheat function is 1 hour, it only takes 5 to 10 minutes to warm the cabin.

I’m 100% sure the timer includes the battery. When I bought my car, I wanted to set to charge only up to 80%. At first, I did it with a timer + charging profile. Every morning I saw my battery to be extremely warm and charging wasn’t that effective.

Yes definitely that, but I was pointing out that the manual preheat does too, it doesn't seem to be just to warm up the cabin, if it was it would need to be 10 minutes not 1 hour.

Definitely. There is already excess of heat, why would one try to heat more?! :) Nobody is supposed to use a timer with dc charging. It just doesn’t make any sense
Preheat for optimal fast DC charging requires battery hotter than normal operation. That is what people mean when they say they want a pre-heat button. Today Taycans will only pre-heat the battery to that level if you use Taycan navigations to a known high speed DC charger. If you use Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze, etc, when you get to the next DC charger, your battery will not be preheated, meaning you will have to charge longer.
