I've had my 2022 Taycan RWD almost a week now and I have a few random charging questions which I can't seem to find a straight answer to via Google.
  1. While charging, should I turn off the car?
  2. Is it bad to charge to 100% once a week instead of 80%? When going on longer journeys I'd rather have the max range.
  3. Is it bad to charge in tiny amounts? Our gym has a very slow Level 2 charger but is it bad for the battery to give it a little 5% top up every morning when I workout?
  4. Is parking outside in 90F that big an issue? We live in California do not have a garage for our Taycan. Summer here is very hot. We do have a couple of large oak trees I can park in under for some shade if it is really necessary.

1. Yes.
2. What ages the battery is time spent above 85% and below 10%. So you want to charge it using a timer to 100% on the day you need it so it is ready right about when you leave. That way it is spending minimum time above 85%.
3.As long as it is between 10 and 85% I don’t see a problem.
4. In the same situation myself. I don’t think this is a problem.

4. No, but ceramic window tint really helps keep the heat down in the cabin. (This is HIGHLY recommend)

One useful tip I heard was the battery has so many total "full cycles" of charging over its life. Putting aside the only charging to 85% issue which is a good idea, charging from say 65% to 85% 4 times is equivalent to charging from 5% to 85% once, at least in terms of battery health and usage.
I found this helpful in choosing to charge or not........

2. I think most people on here charge to 85% not 80% — as that used to be the guidance and the battery already keeps 10% 'reserved' anyway.

3. ABC.... Always Be Charging is a good thing to remember.

I’m also an EV newbie and tag along with a question here if I may:
5. Is it ok to exclusively use Electrify America 150V fast chargers or does fast charging harm the battery in the long run?

I have a very convenient location near my office where I charge during lunch break or close by my home opposite a Starbucks. I drove 1200 miles so far and have only used Electrify America chargers, I just have no need to charge at home.

5. Is it ok to exclusively use Electrify America 150V fast chargers or does fast charging harm the battery in the long run?

5. FYI it's 150 kW, not 150V.
-- To answer your question, doing a lot of fast charging (above 200 kW) to >85% SOC degrades the battery more rapidly - can someone with more expertise help out please?
-- You have the option of limiting the charging to 200 kW with
Charging > ... > Battery Friendly quick charge so even if you're plugged into 350 kW you'll only charge at 200 kW. Charging will take longer, but 200 kW is already a pretty fast clip so I've heard.
-- Also, I hope you're using the Porsche Intelligent Range Manager to get your battery to about 90 degrees F when you pull into a fast charging station.
5a. My question: If I set my charging limit to 85% for AC charging, will the 150 kW and 350 kW DC fast chargers stop charging at 85%?

Of course, 150kW not 150V, thanks for the correction.

— I only plug in to the 150kW chargers so far which works out nicely for me, always brings it up to 85% within 30 mins.
— thanks for the tip limiting the charge to 200kW, I’ll set that in the charging menu.
— I used the Intelligent Range Manager a couple of times to the charging station. The other times I cam from a longer drive and was not concerned about the temperature of the battery. But I’ll now pay closer attention to the battery temperature, it will be crucial during winter months.

5a. From my experience, the 150/350 don’t stop charging at the limit you set. I have the limit set to 85% and EA stations never stop. I played around with the app last time while I was charging and got a message when I pressed the Direct Charging button that “Direct Charging” is always active during fast charging. And Direct Charging means it overwrites the profiles and limits. Please correct me if somebody had another experience.

That’s correct. Profiles don’t apply to DC charging. You need to stop the charging session when you think the car has enough juice.

I have been doing the 85% set in my charging profile when charging at home. When road-tripping, I am typically charging to 70-80% depending upon what I need to get to the next charging station. I usually run it down to 10-15% on road trip legs for the fastest possible DC charging.

My favorite thing about roadtrips in this car is charging speed. In fact, I am convinced that charging speed is more important than overall range.

Already at about 7k miles, up until this week, I had only charged my Taycan to 100% twice -- yes really, TWICE. I've been way conservative and heavily influenced by the forums.

Earlier this week, out of the blue, my SA reached out to me on Instagram and asked about my charging habits. He suggested that I charge it to 100% more often and showed a screenshot of his own PB 4S, with Mission E wheels like me, showing 232 miles of range at 100% SoC. While charging every day to 100% isn't advised, getting a few 100% cycles in with these cars does stretch the legs a bit. It doesn't harm the car, if anything, seems to help it.

I am going to get some more 100% cycles in, especially when starting my longer road trips, and not get so hung up about it.

No - these limits are for AC charging only.

You are correct on how to limit the impact of ultra fast changing but note you may regularly never get near that threshold.

A cycle is 0% to 100% and not simply charging to 100%.

Direct Charging is only relevant for AC charging and not DC, used to override profiles / timers where enabled.
