interesting…
Porsche Cars North America has signed an agreement that gives drivers access to ChargePoint’s network within the Porsche Charging Service.

The collaboration between the German automaker and the EV charging network will boost the number of chargers available to Porsche customers to more than 86,000 across the US.

Timo Resch, president and CEO of Porsche Cars North America, said it was a significant step as the automaker “look forward to the arrival of both the new Taycan arriving at Porsche Centers this summer and also the all-new Macan Electric later this year.”

The My Porsche app enables drivers to easily find EV charging stations, use them, and pay for the charge. The ChargePoint partnership joins the existing integration with Electrify America, allowing Porsche EV and PHEV customers to charge at ChargePoint and roaming partner charging stations via the My Porsche app.

With this latest addition, all Porsche Charging Service Customers can charge at more than 75% of all J1772 and CCS1 charging ports across the US. These additional charging stations will become available in Q4 2024.

In late 2023, Porsche announced the planned implementation of the North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging port for future products in North America. It’s also exploring adapter solutions for its existing EVs to access the Tesla Supercharger network, starting in the first half of 2025.
most of those 86,000 chargers are not DCFast - and ChargePoint's >100 kW chargers are not that high volume (yet??) - but this is better than nothing.

I looked at Plugshare for info on unrestricted chargepoint DC chargers with capacity 100kw+.

Meh.

"boost the number of chargers available to Porsche customers to more than 86,000 across the US."
Destination chargers.
BS, Porsche. Total BS.

That pretty accurately sums it up. We have always had access to the ChargePoint network so that's nothing new. Doesn't mention plug and charge. Doesn't specifically say that the "free" charging included when I bought my car would work on the ChargePoint network.

"The My Porsche app enables drivers to easily find EV charging stations, use them, and pay for the charge."

I'm not sure what part of that announcement Herr Resch thinks is news worthy. That ChargePoint shows up within the "Porsche Charging Service"?

Complaining about Porsce aside, more and more DC charging options are appearing so the trend is in the right direction.

There are a lot of low power Chargepoint units all around Central Florida and many are free to use. The first time I used one, however, required me to download the Chargepoint app, set up an account, add a credit card, and turn on NFC to unlock the plug. Once you've done all this, charging the next time is dead easy.

I'm curious how seamless Porsche plug and charge will be at these locations or if you'll have to manually unlock the plugs, just through the Porsche app rather than the CP one.

Wait, what is the problem here? As far as I understand, this means:
- no need for a CP account/app
- CP fast DC chargers do exist (~50 within 50 miles of my location), and presumably more will be installed/built

Should they have, like, said nothing instead?

(In fact, I was pleasantly surprised - I thought their high-speed chargers are 50-60kW, but a random sampling around me shows 125kW.)

Glad you are happy.
When I look on plugshare in your area, with filters for chargepoint, 99kw +, CCS plug, and hide restricted access, I see this:
Porsche Taycan [North America] - Porsche Charging service now/will support ChargePoint 1718321396900-c3

Two of those five sites are at auto dealerships, which are often not readily available to the public.

Not much in my mind, but better than chargepoint DC FC I see near my roadtrip route between Ohio and Connecticut.

I admit I went by ChargePoint’s own maps, rather than PlugShare’s. My faux pas.

App:
Porsche Taycan [North America] - Porsche Charging service now/will support ChargePoint IMG_2326

Website:
Porsche Taycan [North America] - Porsche Charging service now/will support ChargePoint IMG_2325

I don’t get the discrepancy (either of them ?), but ok, it’s “more”.

The announcement doesn’t really move my needle - it’s not better (or at least CP sites are not showing in the Porsche app yet), but it doesn’t offend me that they did a thing/put out an announcement. ??‍♂

I'm going to give Porsche credit for "trying" - it's not their fault that North American charging infrastructure and companies suck and there are few if any "good partners"

but yeah this is mostly an nothing burger, but it could be more seamless for Porsche customers if well integrated into the App, Vehicle, Porsche Nav, Maps…

charging in North America remains "problematic" I think is the best that can be said.

Here is the plugshare map showing 400kw dispensers by Mercedes and chargepoint:
Porsche Taycan [North America] - Porsche Charging service now/will support ChargePoint 1718369122505-7t

'400kw from every charger' already installed/planned as part of Mercedes charging network:
Porsche Taycan [North America] - Porsche Charging service now/will support ChargePoint 1718369318191-9a

Porsche is doing much less, but Porsche PR folks do know how to get the headlines and "credit for trying".
