Hey all,
Just joined the Forum and have had my ‘23 Taycan CT4 CPO for 4 months. While shopping for this vehicle, I went to test drive and was told it was in the shop for a replacement of the panoramic roof. Now, after less than 4 months and 2000 miles driven, the glass is cracked again…no rock strike, nothing out of the ordinary. Seems to have propagated from the edge toward the middle. Any insights on whether Porsche would cover this under warranty due to incorrect installation? I can’t believe that hitting a pothole or two would cause this type of issue.

It’s very possible they will cover it unless they find some sort of impact mark that they think could have cause it.

Hope so…seems too coincidental to have the same issue again. No strike point Is visible. The crack is over the rear passenger door so way behind the front curvature that could be exposed to a direct hit from a rock.

Do you also have the roof rails? It seems like having those leads to more roof failures but I don’t have any data to back that up.

I do, however, the crack is not near a connection point. Perhaps over-tightening the rails can lead to a stress failure in the middle?

I would assume so but Porsche will need to tell you what they think. If there are no impact marks you will probably be covered.

I'm wondering if your insurance covers the glass roof. I have The Hartford which has the glass coverage option under comprehensive which covers all glass on the vehicle which I would assume covers the roof as well. I just changed my deductible from $500 to $150 so if I need a windshield or roof replaced due to a strike then it won't cost me a fortune to get it replaced. My premium only went up by $66/year for 3 vehicles so I think it's worth it for the peace of mind. I think insurance would pay for the replacement no matter how the glass cracked but while it is under warranty I would go to Porsche first.

Excellent question. I have USAA but hoping I won’t need to go there.

You'd hear it if that happened. But anything can happen. For me, a rock rolled off the top of a dump truck as it rounded a corner in the opposite direction at 30mph. Came down from above and cracked the windshield.

It should be covered unless there is clear strike damage. Porsche GB have has some vehicles requiring 3 replacement panoramic roofs and that's on cars they have done at their uk hq in Reading

Wow. Wondering if it’s an installation flaw or a design flaw that there’s just too much body flex to support glass. Service visit scheduled for Wednesday so I’ll report back on their diagnosis.

My guess was that it was a shell alignment tolerance in some shells since most cars have no problem at all and some had several, starting from new.
It has been happening often enough for Porsche to have a rectification strategy that works by now though since it doesn’t seem to happen much any more.

That has to be under warranty. If it were a glass strike then your insurance would be the one to cover it. I decreased my comprehensive deductible which covers glass on my AARP/The Hartford policy just in case.
I hope I never get a stone chip on the roof but at least I'm cover at only $22/month for each of 3 vehicles to go from a $500 deductible to $150.
I did mainly to cover windshields which usually cost $500 to $600 on normal cars but not sure what the Taycan cost is for a windshield. I did contact Safelite to see if they replace the standard roof in a Taycan and they said they don't do glass roofs, sun/moon roofs on any car so I'm glad I got the extra coverage on comprehensive to cover a cracked roof. I'm praying I don't get unlucky...
