That has to be under warranty. If it were a glass strike then your insurance would be the one to cover it. I decreased my comprehensive deductible which covers glass on my AARP/The Hartford policy just in case.
I hope I never get a stone chip on the roof but at least I'm cover at only $22/month for each of 3 vehicles to go from a $500 deductible to $150.
I did mainly to cover windshields which usually cost $500 to $600 on normal cars but not sure what the Taycan cost is for a windshield. I did contact Safelite to see if they replace the standard roof in a Taycan and they said they don't do glass roofs, sun/moon roofs on any car so I'm glad I got the extra coverage on comprehensive to cover a cracked roof. I'm praying I don't get unlucky...
A word of caution on insurance replacement - more and more insurers are taking the position that if your glass is replaced by Porsche with OEM glass, they will only reimburse you what the expense would have been using non-OEM glass and labor. I'm not saying don't file the claim. Just be prepared to justify having Porsche do the work with genuine OEM glass and document the insurer's willingness in case things go sideways.

Can you feel the crack top or bottom of the glass?

I'd get it checked by your Porsche dealer ASAP. These can develop into a crack that has a chip in, and hence looks like a strike.

I had mine checked before that happened and the roof was replaced under warranty (UK based). But between being checked and fixed it spread markedly and the side end "split" so it looked like it had been hit.

Take plenty of photos too.

Very good point. Do you know if there is an option to replace the roof glass on a Taycan with something other than a Porsche part? Are their other non-Porsche shops approved to do this repair which are approved by most insurance companies? I could easily see insurance companies taking this route rather than be backed into a corner on using Porsche for parts & labor.

I am not aware of anyone outside of Porsche doing this, which might force the insurer to pony up. Personally, I’m adding a glass PPF to mine to mitigate the stray rock hit. The replacement process sounds complicated enough that they could break something else while fixing the original problem.

@Tucson_Jim, did you apply a glass PPF to the roof or windshield? Pros and cons? Happy or not?
I put PPF on the outside of the pano roof. Can’t tell it’s there. So far, no hits. I thought about the windshield and my highly trusted installer advised against it. Told me wiper scratches could be a problem.

wiper scratches
Thanks, @Tucson_Jim. I have pitting on my windshield and have been wondering if windshield PPF actualy works. Yesterday I watched a startup pitch its new windshield PPF technology. Sounded pretty attractive compared with what's on the market today. I should have asked for wiper scratch data.

I have a full STEK PPF application - except the roof glass. It's been three years since the application. This week I had it inspected - still in perfect shape so super happy with STEK (it's also hydrophobic unlike the less expensive brands).

With all the roof glass cracks, I've become convinced that it's probably a good investment. Glad to know it's unnoticeable.

The STEK glass protection film is DynoFlex. @Adrian@GlasWerksDMV installed it on my Taycan about 40,000 miles ago and I’m on the original windshield with no cracks or chips despite some LOUD rock impacts. It is susceptible to dry wiper scratches but I don’t find them very noticeable. Haven’t tried it on the panoramic roof glass.
