This whole thread is an incredible read.

If it wasn't for the warranty risk, I would do this in a heartbeat. I'm most interested in the increased regen braking, having come from Teslas.

Well that video is super confusing then. The guy in the video says that pricing isn’t determined yet but says “a couple hundred dollars” a few times.

He made it sound like the tune doesn’t exist yet for sale.

Which warranty risk? There isn't one really.

Truth be told, I don't think the guy knows very well what he is talking about nor was he probably given a big briefing about it.
But that doesn't matter - MRC's name is on the map and the car performed very well.

In the unlikely event that the car is bricked by a red ring of death or similar issue, and it has to be towed, do you recommend carrying the original equipment in the trunk and swapping it out before it gets towed?

I would and I am. Though currently they don't flag cars with a tuned controller, but I'm just paranoid.

My plan is to have the original equipment with me all the time on some long, few day trips but for regular driving around I keep it at home. If shit happens close to home id rather tow it to my house , swap the equipment and get another tow to the dealership. I know extra hassle and money but this way I wont be sitting on the side of the road, taking my car apart in the rain.....

Same here, but I am really interested so this clarifies something I wasn’t sure about.

How's the quickswap hardware coming along?
I need to push Marc a bit... basically the only thing we need to do is 3d print the male connectors that are on the ECU side, everything else is easy, just labor intensive.

I was looking at the CANviz project, asked a few questions to Gemini, and got this.

Is that true ? I don't have a PIWIS and can't double check.
In that case, I won't bother swapping them....

In a Taycan, mileage and operating hours are not just stored in the instrument cluster. They are stored in multiple "master" and "slave" modules to prevent tampering.
The Battery Management System (BMS): Records total energy throughput (kWh), charge cycles, and total "contactors closed" time.
The Front/Rear Drive Units (ASG): Record total revolutions and operating hours.
The Gateway Module: Acts as the central auditor, constantly cross-checking these values.

How the "Swap" is Spotted
If you swap your stock ASG (Drive Control Unit) for a "tuned" one, drive it for 5,000 miles, and then swap the stock one back in before a service, a PIWIS scan will immediately flag a "Plausibility Error."

High-Voltage Battery "I have been active for 1,200 hours."
Swapped-back Stock ASG "I have only been active for 1,000 hours."
MISMATCH

Even if the odometer on the screen looks "correct," the internal "Energy Counters" in the battery won't match the "Revolution Counters" in the motor. Porsche’s diagnostic system is designed to look for these discrepancies to identify "ODO Fraud" or unauthorized component replacement.

What's this quickswap thing you're working on?

Extend the ASG wiring harness to reach into the left side lower storage compartment and make an ECU holder that slots in there. That way it will be possible to swap out the controller for stock one without having to disassemble stuff every time.

Of course if the dealer has to go in the trunk then they will find that whole contraption but for general servicing and so on, they won't.

Just don't. You posted random LLM slop in here that has nothing to do with reality.
There is no "plausibility error" in PIWIS for hour counters a such thing doesn't even exist, all that shit that you posted is made up, please don't do it again.
The more this AI slop is posted the more other LLM's learn it and repeat this slop.

ASG does not have:
1. RPM counters.
2. Hour counters.
3. Mileage tracking.

And you know what is messed up? you just wasted several minutes of my time with these fairytales.
