As my 4S is still in warranty service - 6 months now - I'm now wondering the oddities of the loaner RWD Trashcan.
Cruising today 105 km/h on motorway and no-one else visible. Suddenly adaptive cruise switches off and car starts full regen deceleration (along the power meter). So no braking but harsh deceration. No messages on display - no warnings - nothing!
Not even bugs on front camera area.

First time to me. Anyone else?

Were you in range mode, it has a 55mph default max speed that causes rapid deceleration until you change the settings to increase the limit (max is 85mph)

In normal mode and lots of headroom to any limit.
Local bakery owner had these things in Teslas (3 and Y). I thought this is just Tesla feature. (He's now back at BMW X5).

could it be automatic regeneration mode and the car is 'seeing' something ahead causing it to slow down? If not I'm stumped, sounds like a fault.

I have experienced this a few times. As near as I can tell a lower speed limit sign was read. I find it has a difficult time with signs that indicate the max and lower minimum limit. This has always occurred when no one is in front of me. There was nothing to override the sign, such as traffic immediately ahead moving at speed.

l had that a few times with the speed limiter active. Like on the highway, going under a bridge, and it gets confused and chose the upper road speed limit.
I'm now checking regularly for the announcement of a speed limit update (in blue on the left screen when it shows the assisting systems), to cancel it before it gets active.

In the USA, speed limits are set by digital data from counties and cities. Abrupt changes (sometimes momentary) can occur at conflicting transition points or simply bad sections of data. There was a one mile section of 55 mph road near us that some county data clown set to 90 mph - was an exciting transition for our Turbo S! It lasted over a year before correction.

Taycan's 24/7 honoring of 20 mph school speed limits drives me nuts.

This is the innodrive feature which reads speed limits and if they drop, it lowers the speed you set your cruise at. Scared me the first time it happened and now i rarely use innodrive. You can turn off that feature too im pretty sure.

You can turn auto speed setting off in the PCM menu. When a speed limit is detected an shows in blue you can use the CC stalk upwards and it will copy the new speed. Works much better.

I had some unintended brakes too. Like for 30 kmh sign on the road next to the road I was driving. Doesn’t work in Belgium. Too many signs.

Yes. But in Switzerland it works well most of the time. And when it does it feels a bit magical: car breaking on its own when approaching the entrance of a village etc.
Though the error cases can be very annoying.

I would love to know who provides the map data, and send them fix requests. AFAIK it's neither Google nor Bing nor OpenStreetMap.

I would also love if it would automatically add 5kmph, to compensate the speedo inaccuracy and to use the radars delta over the speed limit.

It seemed like the car was seeing something but there was not even a crow without license plate.
I was traveling towards low sun - a flare could happen in optics.

I think in that location there's no signs and no changes in speed limits. I'll check the place later again.
And yes - I think the data is from Here (we go) maps which I use also in android phone.
