My relatively new '22 T4S is giving me this red alarm message and slowing the car abruptly when I'm cruising on the freeway sometimes, all while I have one or both hands firmly on the wheel. If I take a 50+ mile drive on the freeway, I'll get it 2-3 times when cruising at speed. Anyone else have this happen?

Sometimes when it happens I have ACC on, but other times not. It's really unpleasant.

Check you to see if you have the speed limiter set and on, or if you have Innodrive or lane keep assist (as opposed to lane change assist) , the setting for That as well. I could also be a software glitch, mine did the same thing, but didn't slow the car just the message, and they updated my software (a while ago) and it's gone.

I have LKA off and I don't have the speed limiter set. If I did, I'd be getting an alarm every 30 seconds on the freeway. :)

Yeah - i get this too. with my hand or hands on the wheel - but not a firm grip. I guess i lightly hold the wheel on highways. normally itl'll flash - i'll squeeze it, it'll go a way. then appear 10 minutes later...

mind you - this is only in reference to driving long trips with LKA on, cruise on, etc

if you're seriously gripping it pretty good, you might want to take it in and have them see if there's a sensor that needs replacing. I don't feel like saying anything about mine because i am just barely holding it. and i like the safety feature

i've thought about getting a large binder clip (??) and leaving it on the wheel somewhere. or maybe a pipe clamp
Porsche Taycan 'Place Hands on Wheel' Message binder

it'd work. but who wants that living on your fancy steering wheel of your fancy car

i WANTED the LKA and these safety features. I love having them on the highway. I did turn off the speed limiter associated with it so it wouldn't drop my speed, but i'm ok with the warnings since i hold the wheel lightly. probably the 3rd car i've had that gives me a similar warning. Some have a specific place i can rest my hand and not get it. The volvo was the worst - i couldn't just squeeze and wait ten minutes - it wanted constant pressure.

but i've tested them all - a strong grip will do it - it doesn't have to be weight down (gravitational)- so anything that can squeeze might work (several rubber bands wrapped/tied around it?)

if it yelled at me when i had a decent or firm grip i'd take it in

Its sensitivity is way too high IMO. Even with a light touch on the wheel, it should recognize that hands are on the wheel. My wife's Subaru does a better job at it.

I'm wondering if it has something to do with the fact that my car came with the manually adjustable steering column due to the chip shortage.

I get the message and have electronic adjustment, so don't think the two are connected. It's definitely a little sensitive.

This is a known issue that Porsche NA keep denying. The solution is to turn off Active Land Keep Assist in the assist part of the setting menu, NOT just on the steering column wand.

This isn't that. That's just normal steering wheel sensitivity issues which Porsche has set way too low. Rather this, I assume, is the sudden unprovoked warning and brake tap that fires randomly and clearly as a flaw in the system.

I had this happen to me on my drive over the weekend. My ACC was on. It definitely gave me a little startle. I thought I was losing power.

I have it turned off in the settings menu. Did that on day one. LKA is awful on this car.

Mine has done this on and off since I got it last May. Just random - sometimes it'll do it 3-4 times in a week, then go weeks without doing it. Sometimes a bumpy road and sometimes completely smooth freeway with both hands on the wheel. Never with ALK or ACC on at all - or rather I should say when the alert happens with ALK/ACC on it's for a good reason (hand off the wheel for awhile, etc...). I've mentioned it 2 times I had it in for a different issue and both times they said they couldn't replicate it.

The LKA actually works really well in my experience. I made my first 500 mi road trip and it worked really well, even in foggy, rainy conditions. I got the white message to "Take over steering" only once. With a slight wiggle on the wheel it went away. If the message keeps appearing too many times and if the car is slowing down on its own, you might want to take it to the dealer. It is not supposed to do that. Perhaps some sensor might be bad.

I get this a lot, with ACC and all assist features turned off. Anyone find a fix yet?

It's getting annoying. I get this a lot too. I would say, this is border line dangerous.
With assistance off, it will gives warning, which I'm OK with.

BUT, sometimes, it will abruptly brake, like phantom braking, even though assistance is off. And sometimes, consistently at the same location on the freeway, like it somehow is geo-aware. The phantom braking is always on with the steering warning (so I assume it's the same system giving false positive).

Usually end up with driver behind me honking at me or swerving to avoid me.

Service center always want a video when it happens, do I constantly mount a go pro pointing at my tube cluster? Just hoping, it does not take a few accidents for Porsche to investigate further into the issue.
