A number of Porsche Taycan owners have received a letter from the German brand urging them to avoid charging their car in a certain place to prevent fires.

However, some owners have recently noted that they have received a letter from the company warning them of a recall to fix a problem with high-voltage battery modules.

Posting the letter to the Taycan Forum, the company advised owners to avoid charging their car whilst it is parked adjacent to a building or inside their garage until the problem is fixed.

Time to make this forum private, with proof of VIN required for access. That is what the Tesla Owners Group do in the UK and it is helpful.
Why? To protect the shareholders? I'd rather Porsche get shit for making shit products. And if they don't want news about their cars catching fire, maybe they should make sure their cars don't catch fires?

I am not sure how you would charge your car if it wasn’t next to a building. Who puts their home charge point in the middle of their garden? It is on the side of the house
Mine is in an underground car park with 100s of us living overhead. Hope I never get that letter!

It's the same for me. Problem is, in Switzerland, some buildings already ban EVs in their undeground parking because of stupid letters like the one from Porsche. And for example, I did receive the exact letter. My car already had the recall done, but say the owner of the building, which is UBS - a bank, decides to ban me from the parking because they read this article.... I can't blame them, I can only blame porsche.

Porsche had a plan, a Franklin EVSE. It's a kite, which you attach to your Taycan, after parking it in the middle of a beach or a damp field (in case it catches on fire). The kite floats around attracting lightening bolts, which in turn charge your car. It would have been available already, except the Ben Franklin estate sued and received an injunction preventing the sale of this new charger, so Porsche was left without this option for now.

I fear we will see more of that with Ferry’s and train transporter like the Channel tunnel perhaps?

Unfortunate development but understandable from Porsche. If they only would make sure that they had enough resources to address these issues.

My car has been booked in early November but is only going in on Monday, without any chance of a loaner (again). Next loaner availability is sometimes late April. There were a good bunch of Macan EV’s in the shop the last time I was allowed to look in.

That was my thought too. Defo worried about ferry companies starting to take a harder line. Don't want to be "trapped" on an island.

When Toyota's first EV, BZ4X, ran into problems making them dangerous to drive (apparently wheels were falling off due to excessive torque), they offered a brand new ICE Toyota replacement loaner for everyone while taking away the BZ4X to their own storage until repaired. The other option offered was for Toyota to just buy back the EV. Draw you own conclusions as far as how customer friendly Porsche is when handling critical recalls. Porsche approach seems to mirror Chevy Bolt battery recall.

My letter actually offered that I would get a loan car, but that was from Porsche France, the importer. My service centre had nothing to offer now and the offer I got was for the vlapped out Audi A1!

The Porsche Customer service for me has been terrible, totally seen. The service guys have been very helpful and supportive, but it looks to be up to each dealer!

And the dealer has tons of second hand Taycans on the lot as well as other Porsches. So many in fact that they are moving all their second hand sales out to a new building! It is extremely hard now to even find a parking space at the centre just to visit them for service. .

I too reside in a large building with 200 units. I recently received a notice from the condo association that all E-bikes must be removed from the parking area. In addition, no bike EV batteries are permitted anywhere on the premises. I am waiting for them to ban EV's due to this fire concern. The municipality is fairly large and I am sure that the FD knows all about these issues.
