Just had my PMCC mounted and installed; I'm wondering if there is a benefit to connecting this thing to Wifi?
I have the PMCC installed in my car port which is not fully secured so I have the passcode enabled.

I find that between powering up the unit and having to enter the passcode, the PMCC takes a while to initialize and I think partly because it's waiting for a wifi connection - The thing takes about a minute to initialize before I can plug the car in and walk away.

I don't have the Porsche Home Energy Manager nor do I need it.
Other than the very occasional OTA update, is there any upside to having the PMCC Wifi connected?

wifi is purely for charging stats via a web portal - it's not critical - you also need it for software update of the PMCC - again not critical - there is very little in which WiFi is essential for the PMCC - it's a useful information conduit for your initial ownership - but eventually you'll no longer care.

I like remoting into my charger to capture the charging stats.

I keep a spreadsheet of my charger sessions with the electricity rate.

No, the boot up is slow because PMCC is trash tbh.

My parking spot is in an underground parkade so no wifi, I occasionally will connect it to my phone via hotspot for a software update.

So, I have to ask why?
[/QUOTE]

I guess I like data.

I tracked mileage on my Targa via Fuelly. No "Chargey" equivalent exists yet, perhaps I will make one, but for now I'm just capturing the data.

It's kinda nice to know what I am spending on "fuel" since a lot of normals ask.

Right now time-of-use discounts have kicked in, so I pay around $25/1000 miles of use.

Got it. I have solar panels, so I just follow my overall monthly power usage versus power generation.

Not essential but you won't get to see your home charging stats in My Porsche.

Disable PLC and connect WiFi.

Disable sleep mode for faster connection and car authentication.

The pass code step can be simplified once your car has been registered in the PMCC and no need to continue to manually enter it. Security is preserved.

How / what`s the procedure on how to register the car to the PMCC?

I didn't know about accessing the PMCC via web browser.
Now what I'm trying to figure out is how to add my vehicle to the Authorized list.
Mine just shows no vehicles added and I can't see where to add one.

You need to enable Plug & Charge in the car to get it registered. Possible in all Taycan except MY20.

With plug and charge enabled your car will be automatically added (VIN like code) to the authorised list and therefore remember for the next time.

In operation, the car will do a handshake with the PMCC and then authorise the charge. 'Taycan' will then appear in the top centre of the PMCC.

Suggest reviewing the manuals(s).

I've read all the manuals and this feature wasn't described, now I know why.

Dang, so my MY20 won't be able to do this? Frustrating. I wonder why this couldn't be added via OTA updates or is there missing data transfer hw in the charge ports for MY20?

This can't be added via OTA, the OBC needs to have a certificate installed and somehow Porsche isn't able to do that. The chart ports are not missing anything, is just that the OBC is missing this certificate and a software update. That's it basically.

"Funny" fact: the service action WMA5 (March 2021) promised features that require the same certificate to be installed. But they didn't install a certificate and hence this feature is still not available. People (like me) complained ... a lot ... nothing happens.

If you check the manual in the car, you will find Plug & Charge to be shown, even though you don't have it. That manual got updated with WMA5.
