I'm having my first winter with my taycan and now that it's freezing I also see the range dropping so I'm zooming in on this a little more.

Today I was really dissapointed; I drove slower then ever before (130-140kmh with calm acceleration) and I end up with the following:

* 170km of distance
* battery went from 80% to 14%
* consumption was 30,8kwh - Now there are reasons for the high consumption (its the ST with 21" wheels), but still.

Calculating here that I used exactly 66% of the battery means my full range would have been 255km. That's really bad, but a bigger worry is that the numbers don't work. I have the "big battery", 93.4 kW; which given the consumption should give me a range of 50km more. So now I'm really worried. Did porsche give me the wrong battery or are their other explanation for this? Because calculating based on what I really use - it seems I have a 79kwh battery

I think the more reliable way to answer your concerns is to measure how many kWh are going into the battery. For example, if you start at 20% and end at 80%, then you will have charged approximately 42.6 kWh with the smaller battery. If you have the larger, you will charge a total of 50.4 kWh. I am assuming that the unusable amount in each battery is not included in the charging calculation, but even if it is there should still be a sizeable difference in what will go into smaller vs the larger battery.

Just for reference it took close to 6 months for my new 4S to 'settle in' in regards any sort of reliable mileage predictions . Not sure how long you have your car - if only a few months old then the impact of the winter 'hit' on mileage prediction even more extreme (typically a ca 10% hit but depends on location and this only after a the long preliminary 'break in' period).

Regarding the size of HV battery in your car:
When I took delivery of my 2022 4S, the dealer gave me a copy of VIN information report for my car.
The report has the title PCSS Vehicle Information. The report is 6 pages long and not only lists every option, it lists software components and serial numbers of the battery and every battery module.

If you want to confirm the components in your Taycan, get that report for your VIN.

i figured that and now charged it to 80 percent.

It charged 58,86kwh going from 14 to 80 percent.

meaning indeed this number is better - now I’m at 89,2 kWh.

so that’s in between both batteries. Would this be the netto capacity? Note that this is literally the first time I went under 20 and that I only fast charged twice - I mean I really take care of this battery. The car is stored outside though

edit: final numbers

normal Taycan RWD here, small battery. Just did a 600km road trip at an average of -5 Celsius. 95% highway, 100-110 km/h. Realistically, the fully charged battery (100%) gave me 310 km of range. The climate is not on eco, no power-conserving measures whatsoever.

20-inch aero wheels, winter Good Years, 5600km of total car's mileage, if that's helpful.

Thank you - I was doing 130 or 140

given the higher speed, the lower efficiency of the 4S and the bigger rims, Ican imagine it is still not impossible I do have the bigger battery.

I just really don’t want to drive slow .. car is to expensive for that

That worries me too, I expect to stop every 300km for a 15 minute charge. The 20 inch winter wheels will improve the range and leaving from home with heated cabin and battery is a mandatory.
Of course at 150kmh situation is different and there will be more stops.

EV suffer range really badly in the winter. Preconditioning your battery before your trip helps. I do my preconditioning whilst it is just finishing off its charge.

How do you precondition your battery? I know the software does it on long trips, but how can I do this from home in the morning?
