How dare you spend time writing it arrived? You should be prying that plastic cover off by now.

Good luck and post build and sample pictures please :)

I've had my car 5 days and it's going in for PPF tomorrow. My 18 yr old son was visiting from University yesterday where he's an upper level engineering student. He saw the FitcamX box on the kitchen counter and grabbed his "FixIt" toolkit that he carries everywhere he goes (just in case?) and was ready to get to work. I'm like, "HOOOOOLLLLD on there kiddo... this will be a little more involved than you think." He looked so crestfallen. My husband's watched the videos and I have the thread bookmarked, so I have a feeling they will have an interesting weekend when the car is good and ready!

Let me know if the FitcamX works for you. For me it just flashed red a few times and did nothing else. I sent it back.

I’ll let you guys know, I’ve assembled PC’s as a job so I’m afraid to enter tights places and shed skin unlocking connectors. It’s the pressure marks from removing panels I’m afraid of.

Make sure you have plenty of superglue handy.

I get the idea of a dash cam to record someone hitting your car when it's parked etc, but i think most camera's don't do this unless you install an extra battery etc. Otherwise, isn't it a bit of a double edged sword?
The Blackvue dashcams (older style had a separate battery pack and the current model is hardwired to the fuse box) record when it detects motion. So if someone hit your car you get a recording. It is not recording all the time when in "parking mode," but will detect motion and start recording. The app also allows you to se the "battery protection" and you can set your own low voltage cut-off for the 12v. The app will notify if disconnects and powers off to protect the battery.

You can open the app and select Live View and view your cars camera while it is parked and connected to your wifi. There is an optional module that uses a sim card and cell connection and you can see your cameras anywhere while it is parked.

I've heard of some issues with the OEM dashcam, so that's why I'm opting for an aftermarket one. Warranty-wise, shouldn't be that big of an issue? I've asked the dealership and they basically said it won't affect it.
I installed a Viofo A139Pro in my 4S CT, cable to rear camera is only 1.8mm dia so really easy to tuck under door cills / trim. Plenty of threads on where to take power from on here.
No issues with battery even when parking mode has be on for 12 hours on busy London street

Has anyone installed a 3rd party dash cam to the Factory Front/Rear Prewiring yet? I don't fancy the Porsche Dashcam.

As far as I've read, the porsche pre wire only adds stuff near the fuse box. Not actually wires in the headliner or near the mirror.

I didn't spec it because it could/can only be selected in conjunction with the pano roof in my country and I definitely don't want a glass roof.

I will, like many others, use a 3rd party solution (viofo a139 pro dual channel). Others have reported good success with the fitxcam but personally I prefer function over design.

I'm about to pull the trigger on a BlackVue. I have purchased three previously from Black Box My Car in Richmondn BC Canada. I emailed them recently about one for my Taycan, they addressed the battery issue and makes me feel a lot better. The only downside is that a small power pack will be going in the already small glove box.

"... for your Taycan, we do recommend getting a battery pack as well since it is an EV, and EVs tend to have smaller 12V accessory batteries than gas or diesel vehicles. This does translate to shorter parking mode runtimes, unfortunately, but using a battery pack will alleviate that. Our most popular battery packs, the BlackVue B-130X and our own PowerCell 8, both have an integrated capacity of 7,500 mAh that can power this system for up to 12.5 hours on a full charge."

I'm going to run mine directly from the 12v and I prepared a lithium battery monitor (Bluetooth) to assess the discharge rate.

In any case, assuming the data we got is correct, the current 8x recharge function should keep the 12v safe for a few days. The most important missing variables right now are a) at what soc we're leaving the 12v at start and b) what the charge rate of the 12v battery is. These two variables can change the expected duration of parking mode dramatically (also got myself a noco booster if the worst happens).

I'll report in a few weeks, hopefully.

Where will you get power then? USB?
I also installed a FitCamX. I believe it gets its power from the rain sensor. The camera comes wired so that the rain sensor is disconnected, plugged into the camera, and then there's a pigtail that plugs back into the rain sensor so the camera and the sensor are powered. It's actually a pretty slick product. GPS and "parking mode" are available if you order that way but that has to be done by contacting the company. I installed the one that has a rear cam, too, but paid Best Buy to run the rear camera wire.
