Upgrading from MY20 4S to MY25 Turbo

Welcone back, Singularity! I have a 2020 Taycan 4S too, but I have not made up my mind what to do with it. It only has about 14K miles on it, so I could probably enjoy it as is for several more years to come. On the other hand, replacing it by a new Macan EV is also an appealing prospect...

I am in the same boat. I have a MY 2020 Turbo with 19k miles. Lease buyout in one month at $70k. A new Turbo starts at ~$180k and we all now what the option menu means. So I'm down to keeping the 2020 for a few years or ordering the electric Macan Turbo. Would be nice to have room for my bike, the dog, etc.

Pictures are not great as it was thunderstormy weather today. This was the best I could do for now but I will post more pictures in a nice outside setting later on.

The dealership is 150km away from home so I got a nice drive with the car right from the bat. I have to say the Turbo is a rocket ship, absolutely mental power. Already my previous Taycan had more than enough power for any practical purposes but this is just insane. I did laugh like a child with each acceleration so yes, I like it.

It's quite easy to lose ones license with this one though. I already lost mine twice with the previous Taycan. I probably should move to Germany but that is another story.

I already noticed a lot of things during this first drive and I will quickly address some of the things I noticed. I will comment on more things as I get more kilometres with the car.

• Externally my opinion is that the Gen 1.5 Turbo is not uglier than my Gen 1 4S nor is it prettier. They both look great and this is just a slightly different take on the concept. Internally I highly prefer the new two-tone look, I will post pictures later but for now I can say that I really love the Bordeaux Red interior!
  
  
• I already talked about power which is mental but a few words about the new Push-to-Pass feature. I like it. It's not strictly needed for 99,99% of overtakes but it's simply a pleasant experience to be able to command "full power" with a press of a button. For me personally it makes other modes than "Normal" even less used probably, since I previously used other modes mainly for "maximum responsiveness" which can now simply be achieved with Push-to-Pass at any moment and then it's automatically back to the comfy normal mode.
  
  
• UX feels improved. They have made many tiny changes to the buttons & interfaces & screens and I feel the changes are for the better. The screen interface seems a bit more responsive than with my old Taycan, I suspect they have made some sort of processor upgrade in addition to tweaking the UI.
  
  
• The cameras seem higher resolution than before. Either the cameras or the screen that shows the cameras are, or that's how I felt. Not a major difference but a difference nonetheless. I have always deemed the 360 camera system adequate in the Taycan but improvement is always nice.
  
  
• Suspension seems better than before. Bumps and uneven road is less noticeable than before. And note I don't have Active Ride. That is probably an interesting feature but I can say with confidence that the new Taycan even without Active Ride is quite smooth. To me it definitely felt smoother than my old Taycan.
  
  
• Rear wheel steering is not very noticeable. I struggle to notice it at all in fact. My previous Taycan didn't have it and this one should have it but I honestly have a hard time feeling it. I tried to feel it both in highway turns and parking lot maneuvering but the difference seems very small. I will comment on this again in the future once I have more kilometers.
  
  
• Power steering Plus is very noticeable. The steering is much lighter at slower speeds and I think it's way lighter even at 80km/h. At 120km/h I felt it was as stiff as without it (like my old Taycan). This is a very significant upgrade in my opinion.
  
  
• Burmester is a very good sound system. I had the Bose which in the Taycan is not bad at all but the Burmester is definitely one of the best stock sound systems I've heard in any car. I listened to the same rock/metal songs with the Bose on the way to the dealer and with the Burmester coming back from the dealer, and the Burmester was way better. Recently I've listened to a lot of metal and that is the hardest genre for speakers. Pop and electronic music and many other genres sound pretty good on a lot of equipment but with metal you can really hear what the system is made of. I will be commenting on this more in the future.
  
  
• The car is a lot quieter than my 4S was. Which is a MASSIVE RELIEF! The noise level was one of the most annoying things about my old Taycan. The difference is quite noticeable and I absolutely love it. Choosing the sound proofed windows certainly helps but it could also be that the new tires are quieter. The tires in the new car are Pirelli Cinturato P7. It could also be that there is extra proofing in the wheel wells / doors, who knows. Whatever the actual reason is, it feels a lot quieter.

Thanks! For me it was the electric 718 that I was actually waiting for and considering. Then the updated Taycan came out of the blue and I changed my mind.

This describes me. I too have a Gentian Blue MY2020 4S and love driving it. While the 2025 Taycan is tempting, my plan continues to be to hold out for a first-gen 718 convertible EV. I miss having a two seat roadster but have no desire to go back to an ICE so the Boxster EV is the current plan.

Yes it does, new EU regulation apparently. It's not a big deal since you can program one of the two custom buttons (either the one on the dash or the one on the steering wheel) to disable it. And with other button/UI improvements I actually find it a bit difficult to find a good feature for the other custom button.

What is way more annoying is that the lane keep feature seems to come back on every time and disabling it (besides from the menu) can only be done by keeping a very small steering wheel stalk button pressed for a good amount of time which then disables it.

I absolutely hate lane keep features and it is more difficult to disable than in my Audi (in which it's a simple button press). Unless I haven't figured out something yet. I hope I'm missing something as that is highly annoying.

Looks good. I have those Pirelli tyres on my car and had Michelins on the previous one. The Pirelli’s were noticeably quieter but also noticeably less grippy and wear unevenly. When I change them I will be going back to Michelin, even if they are noisier

Congrats on the new car!

I find it convenient to have sport sound on the second customizable button. I use it mainly to disable when I want ultimate quietness, and activate when entering a city or area with pedestrians, makes the car a bit more noticeable and thus safer.

I'm not a big fan of the wheels. With better looking wheels the car would look insanely good. I appreciate the range these wheels bring so I'll live with it. It's not like the car is ugly as is

I think that today I found a way to properly disable the lane assist. There are two settings related to it in the menus and the latter one seems to be kept even after restart and seems to disable it.

My 4-year old daughter is a daredevil. I did a launch with her today as she likes that and as this car is a rocket ship I asked her "That was wild, wasn't it?". Her response was "Only a little bit wild".

First 1000 kilometres driven. It's a brilliant car. Enjoying every minute with it. All the changes I made to my build versus my previous Taycan have made the experience even better than before and the increased range doesn't hurt.

When it comes to range, I still have very limited experience of what it actually is with this car. I think I'm getting around 500km at the moment in good summer weather on normal mode. My foot hasn't been exactly light on the throttle though, so with any sort of hypermiling mindset you'd get more.
