Well, I am sad to say that I'm stepping off the EV bus when my Taycan extended warranty expires in October of next year. I will most likely get a Panamera Turbo S hybrid. My last roadtrip sealed the deal. 20 deg F temperatures and a 250 mi trip from Cincinnati to Cleveland. Put my destination into the Porsche nav system and it calculated a stop for me with 12% battery remaining. In these temps, my range was 205 miles starting out. As I'm approaching the charging destination, I'm keeping an eye on mileage remaining at the charge station. I started with 26 miles remaining, but as I drove, the mileage started dropping, 22, 18, 14... and by the time I get to the charging station, I had 9 miles. I never exceeded the speed limit by more than 10mph, and my speed limit went from 95mph to 65 as I approached the station. I found myself tailgating semi's to drop the wind resistance. I get to the station, and there are three chargers, one not working, the other with an empty car parked in front of it, no longer charging, and a very nice guy who saw my predicament and said he'd only be another 10-15 minutes. Once I did hook up, the 'fast charger' ran at around 50W instead of the typical 150-200, so I sat for over 40 minutes. I am done with road trips with this car from now on. My battery health is an excellent 92% (getting a new battery in mid 2024). The anxiety and lack of range make this car just ridiculous for anything other than around town driving. The 158 days in the shop haven't helped sell me on EV's either...

A hybrid Panamera Turbo S will hopefully have most of the bugs worked out by late 2027, and it will be a great car for both driving around town on full electric charge, and taking long trips with no worries whatsoever. I will wait until solid state batteries are in cars for a few years before I even consider making the plunge to EV's again.

I totally empathize with you, so please keep me in mind when you are ready to sell.

A couple of things.

- Dumb question, but did you see the battery preheat

- Tesla Network is now open, so have you tried to use it as backup

- Refresh model overcomes the range and cold

I made many 1,000 mile trips in the same area and had no issues.

Sounds like it's really the 158 days in the shop that really are the problem, which is certainly understandable.

Since you've been an EV owner for at least a few years, and on this board for at least 7, it's very suprising that you wouldn't have used ABRP or some other method to check your trip before leaving. A little planning would likely have prevented the anxiety.

I'll never understand the appeal of hybrids - especially performance hybrids. Dramatically more complex, heavier, worse performance, compromised utility because of the need to house 2 complete powertrains... but many seem convinced that they're somehow "better".

I hope the Panamera (or whatever you get) proves more satisfying and reliable for you.

Well, I did my planning using the Porsche approved tools. That should be all that is required.

The appeal of the hybrid is obvious to quite a few folks, including Porsche and the majority of other car manufacturers who are currently switching their overall strategy from EV to hybrids.

Yes, battery preheated, and that's one of the reasons I use the Porsche nav system. The decrease in range while driving (probably due to the drop in temperature during the trip) was most disconcerting though.

Just VW group, and not even all of it. Audi and Skoda still going all in on EVs.

And ford is only relevant in USA

Sadly battery pre-conditioning does use a lot of energy, even more so in low temps

It should be, but it isn't, and the only way you wouldn't know that is if you've been avoiding reading all the range- and charging-related threads here and on RL...

If the charger where you stopped was 400V, and you don't have the 150kW/400V charger option, then 50KW is the best you could have expected...but again, surely you'd know that about your own car, right?

Nice we have choices (both in the VW brands and otherwise). Some choose to buy a non-EV next time. While I choose different, and my next vehicle will be another Porsche EV even though my Macan EV Trubo has been at the dealership for over 8 weeks in total for software and hardware parts — though thankfully now corrected), I respect we all have different priorities.

What is interesting to me is that the percentage of BEV owners who choose to again buy one (same brand or not) is, dependent on the study at least 70% — with one study stating it is in the 90% range.

To each their own, or to use texting shorthand, “YMMV.” Good luck whatever one chooses as their next vehicle purchase.

It has been very cold here in Upstate NY...single digits.
It takes a big bite our other range for sure, with heavy consumption from heating the cabin/seats.
With the HV battery at ambient temperatures like that, I am surprised it still yields 250 miles range.

Am right with you. Had a horrible experience traveling to and from Minneapolis airport in minus 20 F weather with an estimated range of 150 at 100% for a 110 mile round trip.
Found myself at 1am charging for the second time heading home after the range bottomed out and couldn’t get home. Charged near the airport for an hour and then had to try three different chargers at a Chevy dealership ( all 350kw) before one worked and never went above 50kw on any charger both ways.
Have had three Panamera 4S ehybrid vehicles in the past and am looking that way when this car is returned on lease in 2 months. Not sure if J2 would have made a huge difference in this type of cold which unfortunately, is common for us in Minnesota.
