Looking over the pond, in east, as the chinese shell that I am according to this forum, NIO is one of the many companies that has lowered their prices year over year.
And one would guess that they are just tanking loses, to sell more cars and get market share, but that's a wrong guess. They are also selling battery upgrades/standalone packs, and the price of those has gone down again this year - NIO has recently reduced the price of its 100kWh long-range battery pack by 16%, lowering the cost from 128,000 yuan ($17,600) to 108,000 yuan ($14,850), and even reimbursed peple that bought the battery this year the difference - and at 400kw charging speeds, they aren't exactly made of paper with glue.

And that's just one example. But a very relevant one.
...
I'm in no way a defender of Porsche. I think they have much wrong in their thinking.

But I am suspicious of China...how much is the Chinese govt helping business get a strong foothold in Western markets? And what are the labour rates and conditions they use?

The playing field is not level. Whether it should be is a political question.

Porsche need to get much smarter very quickly...the software side and lack of upgrade path for the current cars is a big mistake IMO. Positioning on batteries another.

They have a great product, but that can change really quickly.

Not true. Yes, there were/are income limits to the $7500 deduction. But "never qualified?" Simply FALSE! I qualified in 2022 on my "new" purchase, and received (and long ago spent :) the $7500. I humbly suggest a better tax planner
You're right. I shouldn't say "Never"
I forgot the original federal EV credit offered between 2010 and 2022 included Porsche Taycan.

For EV purchased in 2023 or later, manufacturers must qualify under a different process put in place by the inflation reduction act of 2022.

If we're looking at officially declared figures, europe helped more european auto manufacturers than china did, in terms of "cash".

But one thing they do in China, that is not done in the rest of the world, is that the government is lending land for cheap to auto manufacturers to build their factories, rent so cheap that it may as well be free.

Labor rates are actually great in china, in the auto industry, in some factories workers are paid more than factory workers in Germany. And engineers/experts are paid 2-3 times what they would be paid in europe, as China overpays for knowledge, stealing employees from porsche/bmw/mercedes/etc.

I don't think what China is doing in the auto industry is special, it's the kind of shit that's been happening in the IT/Engineering world for decades already.

I found it compelling enough to sign on the spot. The discount was real, the car is amazing, and it's new with delivery miles.
Max - I’m in my last year of my 2023 GTS lease, and trying to figure out my next move as I really want a J1.2. May I ask which dealership made you this deal?

At least on ICE Macan they are doing some real works as oil change.
For an EV Taycan service is expensive. Period.
Brake fluid replacement on the Taycan. Oil and brake fluid on ICE.

All Porsche servicing is expensive due to high labour rates £175+ / hour.

Eyes wide open when purchasing a Porsche (any).

Sure. My labour (HU) even more expensive + the 27% tax.
Questionable how long it has any value to make Porsche "maintenance" on a 3-6 years old or older Taycan. Any independent shop is able to make brake fluid works on same level as Porsche does.
Especially when the car is out of warranty.
Other works are rather checking.

Additionally in many case independent shops have higher qualified mechanics as Porsche ever has.

Agree with that.

These are political challenges that we as an electorate need to change.

Same with the other indirect subsidies like energy price. We are making political choices that are killing our ability to compete.

I don't see it ending well. Unless the typically tagged "right wing" /"populist" parties actually get a foothold in the West and start to disrupt.

(Or the Chinese population get fat and comfortable quickly 😁).
