Hi all

it has probably been discussed many times before but I have had the car now two months and I seem to get no where near the range they claim to achieve.

the best I am seeing is 220 miles. I feel like it doesn’t have the battery that is claimed to have. Is there any way to check?

thanks

You have performance battery plus? Check the window sticker if you still have it. Also, what is your average driving efficiency in m/kWh? You can multiply that by 97 for plus or 80 for the smaller battery and that tells you what range you should expect.
What size wheels do you have? And is it cold in your area? I’m in Seattle so both my EVs’ ranges have dropped in the last 2 months. EPA ranges are warm weather numbers.

Hi based on what you have advised. I do have the performance battery.

I guess I need to try more efficiently.

Thanks for your help.

This time of year that’s actually very good. My gen 1 4S is getting about 170 realistically at the moment. During the summer the range will improve significantly and you’ll forget all about the annoying winter months

That is way low for a Gen 2 4s and with the latest and largest battery. My advise is to get the OBD reader and CarSanner app and get the data of SoH (state of health), Battery Energy, and individual cell data. I agree, that you need to look at trip efficiency as well and share that. I am getting more than you in now cold weather on Gen 1 Turbo with 21 inch all season. The range makes no sense for the type of car and battery you have.

I know this is press release stuff and ideal conditions best case (421 miles), but that is to show with data that you are way low:

Porsche Taycan Taycan 4s Gen2 - range 1763927804748-g3

It does seem a little low. My 4S J2, now 15 months old with 15k gets between 2.8-3 kWh/m. - so between 270 -290 real world range @100%.

It’s been colder recently in the UK and, interestingly, the range has barely changed with 2.8 kWh/mile still recorded on a recent trip of 150miles with temps at below 5 degrees C.

I’ve had no faults at all either in 7mths of ownership since purchasing as an ex demo from Nottingham OPC so really pleased.

Ist Porsche and a really awesome machine.

You can get a car scanner and see your battery capacity.

But you definitely have the correct battery.

Don’t rely on the GOM (guess o meter) to tell you your range. It’s just guessing based on your driving style and temperatures.

And in the cold, electric cars can lose 30% of range or more.

I’ve never gotten “stated range” in my gas powered cars either.

Standard in UK on all J1.2s so that won't be the reason.

What is your consumption?

Use the app to check your car's build - go to Garage select car and then more details. All J1.2s have PB+ as standard in UK.

Range will drop in winter due to low ambient temperature.

Ignore the WLTP range figures as these are lab based and overstate by around 30% or so.

What size of wheels and style do you have - another range eater?

Before 2025 build the plus battery was an option.
There are some 2024 j1.2 build cars with the smaller 89kwh battery.

Winter to compared to summer range can see a 10-20% drop.
Motorway speeds add another 10-20% drop.
My 79kwh 4s is still guessing almost 200 miles based upon city/urban driving speeds, driving like an old man with a precious cargo and aircon set to Eco.
Aero wheels give a small improvement

For the 105kwh battery I’ve seen 250 miles quoted for motorway use.
But there is a test on You Tube showing 367miLes from full to flat at a set 70mph.

A heavy foot makes a big difference

Good catch but none for sale at OPCs in UK - all J1.2s for 2024 have PB+

Here's hoping the OPCs were savvy enough by then (5 years of knowledge) to advise all customers to take the PB+ when opting for anything below a 4S.

A heavy foot on the motorway makes a massive difference too. Driving 80+ MPH will kill range, especially in winter when rain (and moving static water on the ground), also affects range a lot, as well as cross-winds.
