I don't have a daily commute and am trying to keep my car in the happy spot of 40-60% SoC. So I have my general profile set at 60% and "optimized charging" as I have no discounted pricing for off hours. So when I dip down towards 40% or lower SoC I plug in and it tops it back to 60% (in this instance, min is max).

Having the benefit of complimentary charging and a DCFC station not too far from home I will top it towards 80% maybe once a month and when doing a proper trip have no concerns charging to 100% at home and then utilize an additional profile with a timer.
Optimized charging is only active when using a solar and grid sourced supply managed by a Home Energy Manager (HEM). It has no effect to the charging session otherwise. Preferred charging time on the otherhand does.

Fair point, it is once again weird...

It is NOT using preferred so the only other choice in the binary situation from Porsche is optimized.

This makes it clear:

The thread starter can achieve their aim by setting only a Profile. No timer is required.

Note if you’re bothered about minimising battery degradation, charge only when you need. Trivial daily top ups are not good for battery health.
E.g if your typical daily mileage is low, just run from 80% down to 25% and charge only as frequently as you need to (advice to me from a HV tech).
If you don’t plan to use the car for a couple of weeks or more, best to maintain a minimum charge of around 50%.

I understand: the "minimum charge" setting is also maximum, if no timer is set.
I will try this today.

Until now, I thought it is not possible to make the car stop charging at 85 % UNLESS a timer is set with a designated time and soc to be reached at that set time.
Nonetheless: it would be easier just to set a maximum soc that overrules everything else but that setting option is not available in the Taycan.

Success. This is a small deal-breaker to me.
Funny how Porsche describes the process, though.

For me, the Preferred Charging Period setting should be on the Timer page instead of the Profile page. Times belong on a Timer page! You either want an Instant charge only, a Scheduled Charge only or an Instant Charge followed by a Scheduled Charge.

It’s amazing how Porsche was able to make something simple so complicated..

My timers are not working since I had the car for 1 month, it did in the beginning. I tried everything but gave up and just charge to set minimum always via 2 profiles. I activate one of the two depending on my needs (one to 40% and another to 85%). Downside is I cannot make good use of lower rates during the night.

So I've never been able to control charging with a profile only and therefore a timer has been required. Others on the forum apparently have.

I use Ovo Charge Anytime for home charging which generates its own profile (no timer) but crucially automatically deactivates the profile when target charge is reached by the time set

Honestly it is not that complicated but accept that folk do struggle with it.

There can be several reasons why timers / profiles may not work out as expected and is generally due to other active and conflicting profiles, timers or EVSE settings (never program your EVSE - run in dumb mode if not a Porsche EVSE.

Daily timer and profile for preferred times attached. Specific to MY20 - MY24 J1.

It could be so much simpler. Look at all the topics and questions on this forum. Just a charging limit and timeslot will be understood by everyone without reading the instructions. How easy is this, clear settings for limit, power and timeslot:

And I do understand how it works. But mine is just broken ?
