been using a faraday box since day 1 of ownership.
what you can do is enter the security code manually every time in PCM before you can drive away the car, Tesla does it same

I've a ghost immobiliser fitted to my Range Rover. Maybe a pin code is a bit easier, but the ghost secret button presses are a bit of a pain in the arse, especially if you're in a rush! Better than getting it nicked i guess, though not sure I'd let someone out of the yellow pages fiddle about with the electronics in a Taycan - especially as that's in warranty still, unlike the RR.

I agree, but that article doesn't really identify anything new. Probably his faraday box is crap and the other guys draw is too close to the front door. Whatever, no/deactivated keyless is the way forward.

Is the relay theft even a problem on the Taycans?
As I recall, most manufacturers fixed this issue (on new cars) many years back...

Haven't got my Taycan yet... so can't test it.

- Lock the car, leave the key (close enough to the car) but totally stationary.
- And then a few minutes later try and open the car using comfort open (without having moved the keys).
- If the car does not open, relay theft is not an issue.
- I don't know how long the movement sensor in the keys is programmed. I think in BMWs it is about 2 minutes.
- If Porsche have not implemented a key sensor in a car as new as the Taycan... then it is poor !

There’s still a window of opportunity if the key remains ‘active’ for 30 minutes or whatever the time period is. Just something to consider / be aware of.

I think the window is (should be!) quite small.
Keys have been designed to be kept in pockets or handbags... and in normal use these would be subject to 'frequent movement', so I am guessing the timeout should be quite small.
I don't think it will be as large as 30 minutes... needs more rigorous testing.

I just tested 30 minutes to make sure it would have switched off but it will probably be less than this. There would still be an opportunity for relay theft walking away from the car in a car park. I sometimes turn the key off manually in this situation

Great idea for a test, so thought I would have a go. I placed my keys on roof by drivers door and then tried to open (expecting it to open), but it wouldn't. So picked up the keys and tried to open (maybe I had disabled comfort last time I used) and it opened. Placed keys on roof again and it would not open. I had more than 5 attempts, and it would not open if I left the keys on roof. So it seems to be almost instant. FYI, I have advanced turned off (handles auto releasing on approach).

You might be right… I did try a couple of positions, the car roof being the closest. Shame there is nothing to tell us, maybe that’s by design.

OK, I've always thought these were ridiculous. You can use a standard bolt cutter (or even less) to snip through the steering wheel in 2 spots and off you go!

Modern thieves don’t carry bolt cutters, just those black boxes to steal your keys. The Club will make a comeback.

Any other tests done. I will try and remember to test again this evening, but would be good to know if my almost intstant is correct, or an error in my test.
