I just swapped out my Porsche NF0 rated winter tires, and noticed weird looking damage on one of the tires (the other 3 were all fine), the right rear tire, on the inside edge only. I haven't driven over anything, plus the damage is all around the tire circumference so not like I drove over a sharp edge of a pothole. Anyone have any theories what could cause this?

Can’t help but notice that the damage happens at the exact same time “rib” on the tread pattern.

Looks like you've run over something that's taken a chunk out to me....

Tire damage. Looks like you have driven over some glass or sharp stones

A brief conversation with Gemini seems to suggest that Porsches tend to develop suspension rear toe-link bushings issues after ~3 years, causing the tire to resonate, which would explain very evenly spaced damage around the circumference of the wheel. If it was just some debris or a pothole, I think I'd see localized damage in one part of the wheel. Note no damage on other tires either.

Here is AI's conclusion:
The "Heavy Foot" Reality: Your driving style is exactly what the Taycan was built for, but it puts the suspension through "dog years" of wear. 3 winters of high-G on-ramps in a Cross Turismo with PDCC is likely the service life limit for those rear toe-links. Replace them, get a fresh alignment, and the "bolted-down" feeling (and even tire wear) should return.

could be from turning the wheel while the car isn't rolling, it will put a lot of twisting force on the tread

Looks like the tire is bouncing off the road by some harmonic oscillation.

Im thinking more along the lines of a bad shock or something loose or worn in the suspension but most likely/hopefully the wheel is just out of balance.

That would create localized damage, and not a very evenly spaced chunking.

AI conclusion was similar, though unbalanced wheel may be less likely as no weights appear to be missing from the wheels, no wheel damage either other than the tire periodic chunking as shown above. Also, I don't feel any vibrations, but I did notice the rear more "playful" recently in the wet, I assumed it was just winter tires in slightly warmer wet weather, but it would also be consistent with some play in suspension elements (or bad shocks).

Yes, often Sport Plus on highways.
I think you have caught the beginning what others who often drive with the suspension in the lowest setting usually catch later which is the excessive wear on the inner crown. Keep going and it will become more even but still confined to that inner edge. The only way to not have that wear is to not drive with the suspension in the lowest setting all the time. There are plenty of posts showing what your tires will eventually look like.

Update: I had a tire store check the balance of the the tire over the weekend. They say it was 0.75oz off, which is not insignificant. Decided to wait and see what happens with the all season tires I will be using for 2-3 months (until it gets warm enough to put on summer tires). Will also do a little digging with a PIWIS when I find time to see if there are any differences in wheel vibrations sensed by the suspension between the two rear tires.

I have seen more wear on the inner edges after prolonged, multi hour drive in SportPlus, but it was symmetric, not just on one tire. This damage is on a single tire only.
