Out of interest, have they given you a quote for the work they feel is involved?
I suspect they would only give a quote for steering rack replacement, but no guarantee it will fix the problem, i.e. there may be additional work required (for additional fee of course). When you don't have good techs who can diagnose issues, you just swap parts until things start working. Of course, sometimes that is in the dealer's best interest, especially if the customer is paying - the more they swap, the more money they make, and customers usually won't ask for old parts back, so if they swap a steering rack and it doesn't remedy the issue, they can sell the old rack as used but in working condition.

The Porsche dealers experience in the UK was the main reason I sold my Taycan.
Worst brand I have dealt with by some margin.

It wore me down - not only with all the faults and recalls......but then having to deal with the dealers.

One of them was initially good, but over time they were swamped (their words) with faulty Taycans and didn't have enough Taycan trained technicians.

it meant long waits just to get in (3 months), no loan cars, but premium billing.

Using that tiny alloy scuff as a reason to deny a steering warranty just about sums it up for me.

Good luck OP. Stick to your guns, because they dont even know what is wrong, or what caused it....but they have already decided its warranty void due to a tiny wheel scuff.
That is very unfair, not to say unethical.

Keep pursuing Porsche for sure; but don’t panic because if it was a collision then it would be an insurance claim rather than warranty - which would hurt a bit but still isn’t the whole £5200.

Talk to your local newspapers, so you get some heat

In the UK only 5 out of 25-30 official Porsche dealerships are Porsche owned, so there unfortunately may be variability in cost and problem solving ability
There is a fairly large amount of variability amongst the porsche owned branches too...

Fairly simple to me there are 2 options here;

1. they repair the work under the warranty

2. you pay for the work to be done then take them to small claims court for breach of warranty.

I would simply tell them if they really believe light scuffing has caused so much damage that is fine but let’s see what a judge says in court….

it would never go to court even if you were in the wrong - as Porsche wouldn’t let it go to court - the reputational risk here would be too high for them.

I 100% agree with what you're suggesting in principle and it would serve them right. It's ludicrous.

However, I think it might start getting complicated as the dealership and the warranty issuer (insurer) are likely different legal entities so who do you take to court etc.

Warranty company that is who the contract is with.

if it is an insurance you can also complain to the FOS but small claims court will be quicker to get your money back and also you stand higher chances of success.

I would start with a letter detailing your complaint with a clear course of action of a small claims court case and a complaint to the FOS if they don’t resolve your complaint.

Thanks for all the responses.

Porsche HQ are due to call me tomorrow. I will see what they say but will follow the approach described above should they not agree to the repair under warranty immediately.

Include your insurance company. Explain what happened. They are happy to help, because it will help them not to pay for it. They have enough legal knowledge to put some pressure on OPC

Risk is, in UK anyway it will impact your insurance renewal premium whatever the outcome. I’d stay well clear of involving them unless I thought I’d need to claim from them.

Fire a few Fs into HQ and hopefully it works out for you. Copy the head guy, I think his email is on this forum somewhere, I’d think he’d be very embarrassed.

Good luck.

I feel like that almost everyone from Europe who has a warranty claim goes through hell trying to get it honored. In the US, it's usually a pretty easy process when something is obviously a warranty issue. That tiny bit of curb rash is a ridiculous excuse for them to say that the issue stemmed from that slight impact. It's almost like, by law, a dealership in Europe has to cover half the cost of a warranty claim or something.

But surely the car is still under Porsche warranty? The car is from October 2023 as I understood it. Then clearly Porsche should have the responsibility. The dealer seems an awkward one to be sure.
