I'm getting a 2022 Taycan with 19.2 kW charger. Hopefully they fixed the Plug and Charge issues for MY2022 but mostly I will just charge at home. I have already had my electrician out to confirm that I can run an 80A EVSE off my panel and service (lucky!).

Clipper Creek EVSEs are all 4-5 month wait so I'm looking at WattZilla. I was already set on the Uno but then I noticed this Wall Wattz unit which is only 5A less and $600 cheaper and has the "cable management" hook already built in. I'm trying to justify the extra 5A but it doesn't seem like it would make a whole lot of difference. I called WattZilla and they said the Uno is serviceable/upgradeable and the Wall Wattz is sealed but I can't honestly see needing any more charging capacity for at least the next 5 years which is the minimum I would plan to own my Taycan.

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of setup and have any opinions?

I have the 75A Wall Wattz. But I picked it up for $1200 earlier this year. It’s unfortunate that it’s gone up to $1500 since then. But remember there is a 30% tax credit (up to $1000) for residential EVSE and installation in 2021.

I also couldn’t justify the extra cost for 5 more amps. 18kW is more than sufficient.

I charge exclusively at home and have had zero issues with it during our almost 3000 miles.

I typically get 17kW at the car.

It does seem very small and not plastic looking, which is another thing I liked about it.
Which battery do you have and how long does it take to get a full charge from 5%-80%?

I have the larger battery. I don’t ever get that low, and I don’t really time it so I don’t know.

But the car receives 17kW and the actual usable battery capacity is something less than the stated capacity so 5%-80% should be at or under 4 hours.

Here’s another alternative…there are a number of new Tesla 80A chargers available in places like ebay, or in the classifieds at teslaownersonline.com for less than half the price of the 80A Wattzilla (some significantly less). There’s also a group buy going on right now on this forum for the TeslaTap Mini 60A or 80A. If you don’t mind having the Mini being a permanent fixture on the Tesla HPWC, you could save some money…

FWIW, the tax credit is only on new equipment.

The eBay one @atebit linked to says “open box like new” and says “never installed”, so it should still meet the tax credit requirements as the exact wording of 8911 is “the original use of the property began with you”. But it’s something to keep in mind while you’re looking in case some don’t meet the requirements.

Disclaimer: I’m not a tax professional.

I believe the Wall Wattz is an older product than the Uno. Both are based on the OpenEVSE platform. I would imagine the Uno upgrade/service being more about picking up OpenEVSE firmware updates e.g. safety improvements, or say, add a wifi module for management/ monitoring/ home automation. That said, it’s unclear if that’s just a hypothetical possibility or if the Uno/Duo etc. are actually receiving updates and have post-install upgrade options.

I think he was referring to hardware upgrades. He mentioned 3-phase.
