What's the best alternative to the Taycan?

I've had enough now so ready to bail out, cut my losses and get rid of this car.

Nav doesn't work, no fix until June if we're lucky. I've had all the recalls, new windscreen from manufacturing fault, it's been in the OPC more than any other car I've owned, there are squeaks and rattles coming, and now the LTE is broken and they can't book me in until mid-March (they said mid-April until I pointed out I'm already booked in mid-March for something else). Porsche service (here in the UK at least) is rubbish, and while the car is a joy to drive the tech backing it up is just woeful. I don't trust the car not to let me down and I'm sick to death of wasting day after day driving to/from the OPC.

So - what do folks think is the closed EV alternative to the Taycan? I'm looking for a similar mix of driving experience/performance and prestige. Money not necessarily an object but in an ideal world I wouldn't lose 70k in 3 years again (though EVs are still developing fast, so they'll all depreciate as tech gets better)

My only other thought is to get in to a 911 GTS with the new T-Hybrid engine, but that doesn't sort the "we can't look at your broken car for 2 months if you want a loan vehicle, or a month if not" issue.

I have been looking at both the BMW i4 M50 as well as the i5 M60 (and also - *ghasp* - diesels). They are not to far off compared to the Taycan when it comes to acceleration, range and charging speed. Although without having actually driven one of them, I would expect the Taycan to have the edge when it comes to handling and driving dynamics. Having owned about 7 BMWs in the last 25 years, my feeling is that they are slightly more "durable" than the Taycan has proven to be. They are not inexpensive to maintain, but in this too I feel they're not quite in Porsche land, thankfully :)

I'm halfway in the same boat as you. I love driving my Taycan, but it is always with a slight sense of dread of what breaks next. I've chosen to ignore navigation and range planner these last months. It's obviously broken. Just better to rely on Carplay, both when it comes to navigation and music streaming. Last year was an expensive year with different things breaking and wearing out (battery, heater (twice), camera, brakes...) since my warranty also was expired.

With the brutal depreciation the Taycan has had since new, I'm still on the fence on wether to just keep it until it has no more value than scrap fee, or take the loss and try trading it in for a new BMW.

A mate of mine just got the i5 coming out of a Taycan and while the tech is impressive he said it's "just a 5 series, it's nothing special at all. Rep car"

It's very tempting to go back to Audi, I always loved all of mine previously. The dealer service was brilliant too.

I was happy to overlook the Nav for now, but with an LTE fault now meaning I can't charge cheap at home or precondition, and the OPC suggesting 2 months was normal to wait for them to look at the car, I'm ready to ditch Porsche based on service and head office response to issues.

Was it the regular I5 or the M60? (At least when I used to drive M-trim cars they were a bit more refined than the base models.)

Or hang on and see what the Zeekr 7GT is like, new BMW ix3 and wait even longer for the neuwe classe M3 EV. In the end though probably still prefer a j1.2 😆

The j1.2 doesn’t fix the issue of having to wait a month or 2 when you have a problem. I was 100% certain I would hold on to my car until the next Taycan iteration but I can’t continue to wait months to be seen by a dealer

Absolutely, it doesn’t. I haven’t suffered from service like that from Porsche Reading. 2-3 weeks to book in and get a loan car so far, enough to keep me on side.

With Bristol it’s getting worse - it used to be a few weeks, today they suggested the end of April with a loaner or the middle/end of March without. They also asked if I had an OPC nearer to me which made me wonder if they’re trying to get rid of people despite having a shiney new Destination Center

Polestars look quite cool, their new advert is brilliant. I test drove a 4 when I wanted out of Tesla and was underwhelmed, it was a basic RWD in fairness. The 3 is very stylish to my eyes, doesn’t look as big as it is and supposedly drives well.

I ran out of patience also and jumped ship for a BMW i4 M50, 16 months ago.
Only 2 of us, so I don't need anything bigger......in fact one of my biggest issues with the Taycan was the size.

Unsurprisingly, the awful UK dealer experience (with all the cars faults) was my biggest gripe. I couldn't take it any more and just made my mind up and got rid over a single weekend.
All the Porsche dealers ghosted me when enquiring about a buyback (in fact one told me the buyer doesn't have a phone and will email me if interested 🤣) but I got a surprisingly good px from. BMW.

For me it was a great move. So far not had one single issue or fault and not a single dealer visit.

The only things I miss from the Taycan are Internet Radio and the surround camera's.
And its looks.....Taycans are beautiful cars. The i4 is just another BMW saloon.

Depreciation is still high, but I mitigated it by getting a nearly new car with £35k off list..... and I like it so much I will probably keep hold for many many years and just update the wife's car.

Taycan GTS
My previous car was a I4 M50 and its a very capable car. Its faster than the figures suggest in a straight line (My GTS was slower) and I had 0 issues with the car. Having said that I would wait on the new EV range of BMW. I like the retro design and they are miles ahead of Porsche on battery level..
