Why I Dumped Carplay

I have my steering wheel diamond button set to move on from car play to favourites. A single press of this moves me back to the radio when car play connects. Not perfect, but works. Obviously no good if you use that button for something else

Hi. Next time you’re in the car could you check which option you have please as I don’t have move to favourites as a choice. I see next track/station, last track/station and change source. Initial fiddlings seem not to work. Cheers.

I'm sorry to hear that. I think you have a '20, right? I frequently hear people talking about issues they are having that I am just not experiencing with my '22, so I wonder whether subtle changes (maybe different chips or software) may make a difference. In any event, I would not give up entirely, try in different spots, because it is pretty cool when you get it going. And yes, some days it is fussy for me at the beginning, but I usually am able to make it work.

Yes I do have a MY20.
Interesting that you think it could be MY dependant? But I will try again in places where I know the car has very good network coverage and see.

I am pretty sure it is the change source option. You can also alter the order it which it goes through the sources, so mine has Favourites immediately after Car play.

I can't check at the moment as it has gone in for its big software update. And I am in a 2L Macan. It's a nice car (only 600 miles on the clock) but feels like it has the wrong engine in it. Trying to accelerate just makes it change down without going any faster until it is revving over 4000. Sorry - I digress!

I'm in the same loaner right now. It is indeed so sluggish in comparison to even my Taycan RWD. Gear changes are jerky too, especially when starting from a stop after the engine has shut off (not sure if actually shutting off or revving down to 0).

I will say that Carplay connects much quicker than my Taycan pre-update, its always between ~5-15 seconds for wireless Carplay to pop up. The responsiveness and smoothness of Carplay seems better as well. Hopefully the improved PCM responsiveness post-update extends to Carplay as well?

Had been hoping for a fix, but considering this route for some time. Went ahead and did it today and I’m fairly happier with it disabled for my daily driving. Several functions that i need the phone to do work just fine over Bluetooth and the UI in the car. I’ll plug the phone in for CarPlay on roadtrips. Just a damn shame we have to turn off functions like this that should make life better in the car for the driver.

The PCM has stabilized dramatically after the big update for me. I no longer have complaints other than this one.

I agree. ANA6 was a huge improvement in PCM stability, and losing my "Prior to OFF" music source is one of my last real complaints.

While this is truly irritating, I find myself using the notifications in Apple Maps for speed traps, hazards, and collisions quite a bit. I also like the fact that I can simple say "Report Speed Check" or "Report collision" and it instantly adds that to the Apple Maps database for other drivers. I've been saved from a few speeding tickets by the kindness of others

How long does it take y'all to have your phone connect via Bluetooth / CarPlay /Android Auto after the car turns on? Mine seems to take 3-4 minutes before Bluetooth turns on for some reason (even if you go into the Bluetooth menu it is unchecked and you can't check it). Wondering if this is normal.

Did you get the ANA6 PCM uPdate? That really speeds up the connection process.

It's a VW Golf 2 litre engine.

it shows the difference between GPS speed, which I assume is more accurate and Porsche indicated speed, which I assume is conservative. Here, the speed limit is 25 mph, GPS says I am going 26 mph (as shown by Waze) and Porsche says I am going 28 mph.

Here in the UK the car's speedometer allowable legal error is 10% iirc
Ever since GPS was available I have "calibrated" my car's speedometers and they are pretty well always about 10% fast. My current Prius is about 5% fast.

It means people are usually going slower than they realise and less likely to get a speeding fine.

I am all up to date sadly. Wondering if I should go ask them to reflash some parts to see if it fixes it...

I just got carplay (with the update) and I'm actually doing the opposite and am not using the apps on my phone as often as I use it on the PCM. Kind of nice actually.

Waze users via Carplay, do you see details of accidents or messages about accidents on Waze? Used it on my iphone for years but with Carplay I can't see details when touching the accident icon on the PCM like I used to on my iphone. I assume that is a safety issue? Also, I can't use Waze on my iphone at the same time I get a different interface screen when Carplay Waze is running?
