Windshield replacement advice?

Well, it finally happened. Took a rock at elevated speed and now have a ~8” crack on the passenger side of the windshield.
Any advice for getting quality replacement work? I want to be sure to get OEM quality glass and also have the job done right, including the sensor calibration I’ve been reading about. I’m thinking of just having it done at the dealership and then filing for an insurance claim to cover as much as I can, though I’m wondering if you all have any advice, as I’m sure the dealership is the most expensive way to do this.

take to the dealer - modern cars require driver's assistance recalibration of the forward facing camera's after windshield replacement - I have the glass deductible buy-down - so insurance pays for it

my Cayenne windshield was $4-5k between parts, labor, and recalibration - insurance minus my deductible took care of it at my local Prosche dealers where I was knew I was getting OEM glass (tinted, noise insulation, heated windshield, etc…)

Thanks for the quick reply! The dealership doesn’t show up in the insurance system as an “approved” auto glass replacement shop. (State Farm)
How did you sequence the paperwork part of the claim?

it will go through comprehensive if you like you can call your insurance vendor and confirm ahead of time - tell them you have a high end car and want dealership service for this component since it requires vendor specific computer calibration post install…

with farmer's insurance - they have a whole "glass claim" path on their website - and one of the choices is "I've already paid and have the invoice/receipt" - I don't know with state farm how they handle it.

Go through your insurance. I have had to get two done unfortunately. Cost through the dealer I have seen between 3.3k-5k. I have paid 3.3k each time for mine.

$3-5k? Wow, pay to play I guess. I’m waiting to hear what my share of the cost will be since I am going through the dealership instead of a State Farm approved shop.

if you want to be sure of getting the job done right your only choice is to go to a porsche service center.

I purchased additional glass coverage on my The Hartford auto insurance policy which reduces my deductible on all my vehicles to $50 but more importantly covers me for any glass damage including the panoramic roof which costs well over $10K at the dealer. Spoke to Safelite and was told they don’t replace windshields on Taycan’s yet but have no plans or ability to replace a panoramic roof which is likely only repairable by a Porsche dealer.

Thanks. State Farm wanted to send me to Caliber, which is a step up from Safelite (at least I perceive it to be), but I'm going to the dealer just to be sure.

Florida, Kentucky and South Carolina all have laws requiring free windshield replacement. Are you sure it didnt happen in one of those states?

How does it matter that the windshield damage happened in Florida? How would one in my situation go about availing myself of Florida law?

(BTW I was in Florida checking out the Roar Before the 24. The 963s look great! Hoping for another successful year in GTP)

I received paperwork from my insurance company covering California law when I got a rock chip there. Got rear ended in MN years ago and their laws applied to me also. It really couldn’t work any other way. I live in Oregon. I also was on my to Fl in 2023 to see the 963 at Daytona when the rock chip got me in Pasadena.
