Longest trip so far in one day, a real world ”test” of how the car can survive winter conditions.
This week we packed the CT4 with 5 people (3 adults and 2 kids), 3 snowboards (with boots and 2 helmets) and clothes for a one week trip to a Ski Resort in Ruka Lapland (Finland).
Started with a fully charger battery and preheated car early in the morning. First stop was 290km north of Helsinki in Jyväskylä, where we stopped with a good margin and charged up to 98% (77,84kWh in 1h10min).
Second stop was in Oulu, 321km from Jyväskylä, where we stopped with 10% charge left, the ambient temp there was about -9C. Charged up to 90% in this HPC charger, again about 80kW charging even though it was rated 225kW, and decided to move on, with 253km left to our final destination. The range estimator said that there was about a margin of 15km to get to the end.
We got to Kuusamo in the evening, the temperatures got really cold to -22C, and part of the way was some freezing rain. With 27km left (and passing the last public HPC), the range estimator said 28km. Decided to continue (kids really tired etc.), but the estimator km’s slowly caught up with the remaining distance, and 2km before the destination we got to 0%, red alarm to stop immediately and turtle mode was activated. Creeped slowly to the cottage in turtle mode, with hungry/tired passengers and freezing cold outdoors (-17C), but we got to the destination and directly plugged in into a 16A suko socket with 3.3kW charging.
Unfortunately the battery alarm screen blocked the trip data, but the beginning of the trip the consumption was about 25kWh/100km.
A two stop strategy for a >860km roadtrip works even in winter conditions, but next time I would have a bit more patience to fully charge the battery.
